Cannupa Hanska Luger’s Future Ancestral Technologies at The Hammer – FA > As part of the related programming for Breath(e): Toward Climate and Social Justice, this Tuesday The Hammer Museum screens a series of short films by artist Cannupa Hanska Luger that showcase his approach to Indigenous futurism, storytelling, and documentation of a living practice. Olafur Eliasson: OPEN – MOCA Geffen – M > For their part in PST Art, MOCA Geffen is bringing the work of Icelandic–Danish artist Olafur Eliasson to Los Angeles for his first solo exhibition in the city. The exhibition includes a series of site-specific installations showcasing a “dazzling array of sensory experiences that harness the laws of geometric optics to address feelings and concepts of embodiment, perception, and participation.” OPEN will be on view Tuesday-Sunday through July 6, 2025. Spider Pavilion at NHM -> Explore the secret lives of spiders at the Natural History Museum’s Spider Pavilion, a unique seasonal attraction happening from September 15 to November 24. Walk among hundreds of orb weavers and their intricate webs, then peek into enclosed habitats showcasing a variety of spider species, including tarantulas and jumping spiders. Admission is just $10 with a timed ticket (required in addition to museum admission) or free for members.
Comedy Patio – M FA > Free standup comedy comes to Grand Central Market this Wednesday in the form of The Comedy Patio, a showcase taking place at Maple Block. Jeff Buck hosts a lineup featuring Jesus Trejo, Isa Quiros, Hayden Arrington, and Terrence Murphy. Show starts at 7 p.m. More info here.
Redondo Beach Sunset Yoga – FA > Every Wednesday in September, Redondo Pier Association, MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach and Cancer Support Community South Bay co-present an evening of Sunset Yoga at the Redondo Beach Pier. Hola México Film Festival -> The 2024 Hola México Film Festival is the largest Mexican Film Festival outside of México. Presented by Toyota Camry, the lineup features screenings at Regal Cinemas LA LIVE, The Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, and LA Plaza De Cultura Y Artes. Secret Walls The Art of Competition Tour – TP > Get ready for an adrenaline-packed night as Secret Walls brings its electrifying touring live art battle, The Art of Competition, to DTLA this Friday. Watch as graffiti artists and muralists go head-to-head in teams, racing against the clock with just 90 minutes to create their masterpiece. Red Bull BC One Cypher USA -> This Friday and Saturday, Red Bull’s legendary one-on-one breaking competition, Red Bull BC One, is coming to Los Angeles for the U.S. National Finals. After regional competitions, the top breakers in the country will gather in the city for a weekend of action. It starts with Red Bull BC One Camp USA on September 27, offering workshops and panels led by world-class breakers. Los Angeles Haunted Hayride -> The signature Halloween experience held in Griffith Park is back for 2024. The whole thing takes place in Midnight Falls, a fictional horror-town filled with roaming monsters.
