Getty and The Classical Theatre of Harlem Present Memnon – > Beginning this Thursday, The Getty Villa’s Outdoor Outdoor Classical Theater returns with Memnon, the tale of a powerful Ethiopian king who journeys to the city of Troy to engage in battle during the Trojans’ darkest hour. Written by Will Power directed by Carl Cofield and co-produced by the Classical Theatre of Harlem. Free to attend with advance reservation. Tickets are $45 person. Santa Monica Pier’s 115th Birthday Celebration – M FA TP > This Friday, Santa Monica Pier’s 115th Birthday Celebration will include live performances, food specials, kids activities, a beer garden, and an outdoor screening of the movie Barbie in partnership with Street Food Cinema. Frogtown First Fridays “All About Animals” – FA > Elysian Valley Arts Collective is back with Frogtown First Fridays, and this time it’s “All About Animals.” Stroll through the car-free event and explore 15 venues hosting art exhibits, free or low-cost family activities, arts & crafts, workshops, live music, and booths from animal welfare organizations and pet care businesses. Dance MDR Salsa Night – FA > Every Friday night in September, shimmy over to Burton Chace Park for an evening of dance featuring beginner lessons from top L.A.’s dance teachers plus DJ spun tunes to get into the groove. Chinatown First Fridays – M FA > L.A.’s Chinatown stays open late on Friday for an evening of exploring the unique small businesses and contemporary art and culture spaces that make up the historic neighborhood. West Plaza and Chungking Road will activate with local pop-up vendors, DJ-spun music, and area galleries with extended hours. Main Street Block Party – FA > Main Street, Santa Monica will close the streets to cars for a lively community festival on Saturday. The event features al fresco dining, a Y2K beer garden, live music, local vendors, and kids’ activities. Don’t forget to bring your dogs to the party because Day of the Dog returns this year with a wild and free, pet-friendly festival filled with pool parties, dog surfing, foam parties, pup yoga, weiner races and more. A Night in the Park at Johnny Carson Park in Burbank – FA > The Burbank Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with Valley Cultural Foundation and the Burbank Cultural Arts Commission presents Fall Festival – A Night in the Park at Johnny Carson Park in Burbank this Saturday. Viva Long Beach -> On Saturday, Viva Long Beach showcases the diverse culture and vibrant spirit of Long Beach while celebrating Latine Heritage Month. Free and open to all, the event features live music with headliners Boogaalo, dancing, food and shopping. Runs 2 to 7 p.m. More info here.
Future Imaginaries at The Autry -> The Autry’s newest exhibition, Future Imaginaries, opens this Saturday. Here you’ll find over 50 artworks investigating the rise of Futurism in contemporary Indigenous art as a means of enduring colonial trauma, creating alternative futures and advocating for Indigenous technologies in a more inclusive present and sustainable future. The exhibition is The Autry’s contribution to the 2024 edition of PST ART, which is banding together over 70 exhibitions and programs in the region through the theme of “Art & Science Collide.” Future Imaginaries remains on view through June 21, 2026. LA Tequila Festival – > This Saturday, The 7th annual LA Tequila Festival will transform LA Center Studios into a tequila and mezcal paradise with a selection of over 85 brands to sample. Sunday Afternoon Concerts in the Dome -> Mount Wilson Observatory continues its 2024 season of classical concerts this Sunday, hosted inside the historic 100-inch telescope dome where the acoustics are said to be some of the finest in the world. There will be two musical performances, one at 3 p.m. and the other at 5 p.m. Tickets are $60. More info here

For the Win Grand Opening -> On Saturday, September 7, viral smashburger operation For the Win will host its grand opening at the Beverly Center. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the first 500 guests will receive a free cheeseburger, while supplies last. Guests can enjoy exclusive access to the BEV Beer Garden with complimentary beer, wine, lawn games, music, and photo opportunities by showing their receipt at check-in. 4th Annual Make Choice a Piece of Cake Fundraiser -> On Sunday, September 8, Gather for Good will host “Make Choice a Piece of Cake,” a reproductive rights fundraiser featuring over 30 of over 30 of LA’s top pastry chefs and bakers. Taking place at Redbird in Downtown Los Angeles, this event will showcase stunning cakes that can be won through cake dance raffles. Individual slices of cake, craft cocktails, and artisan coffee will also be available for purchase. Music by M*Flo will set the tone for this outdoor, family-friendly event, which will also offer vegan and gluten-free cakes. Proceeds will benefit Plan C and Reproductive Freedom for All.
