LUMINEX 3.0: Landscape Frequencies – FA > The outdoor art experience LUMINEX returns for its third year this Saturday, transforming downtown Los Angeles into a vibrant outdoor gallery for one night only. Buildings in DTLA’s South Park District will become giant canvases, showcasing the work of eight cutting-edge multimedia artists, including JOJO ABOT, Refik Anadol, Alice Bucknell, Nao Bustamante, Petra Cortright, Marc Horowitz, Carole Kim, and Sarah Rara, with special installations by Los Angeles Video Artists (LAVA). What Water Wants Opening at Clockshop – FA > This Saturday, Clockshop hosts an free opening celebration for artist Rosten Woo’s binaural audio tour What Water Wants, presented as part of the PST ART: Art & Science Collide initiative. The late afternoon affair at Lewis MacAdams Park will include hands-on workshops with artist Misa Chhan and mycologist Danielle Stevenson, special educational activities with California State Parks and The Nature Conservancy, tunes by DJ Muezette, and timed tours of the new experience. Over-the-ear headsets will be provided for the tours, but timed slots will be offered on a first-come, first-reserved basis. The event runs from 4 to 6:30 p.m. More info here.
Culver City Art Walk and Roll Festival – M FA TP > This Saturday, a four-block stretch of Washington Blvd will close to traffic for the day-long Culver City Art Walk and Roll Festival. Expect a slew of gallery visits, artists, two stages of live music, wine and beer gardens, a kids zone, interactive art experiences, and more. Free and open to the public. Japan Family Day > One of the largest Japanese Family Festivals in SoCal, Japan Family Day brings two days (Saturday and Sunday) of Japanese culture, entertainment, and food to Santa Anita Park. Fun for the entire family the festival runs 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both dates, and attendees can also catch the Tokyo City Cup at the race track on Sunday. Tickets cost $10. More info here.
