Okay, today we’re going to make springtime feel like springtime.
In view for this Sunday in Los Angeles you’ll find the Butterfly Pavilion at NHM, an agave festival at the South Coast Botanic Garden, a Creative Communal spring market in Pasadena, César Chávez Family Day at LA Plaza, a Bar Nuda / Innergarden seasonal brunch team-up, and more.
Make Metro Part of Your Weekend
NHM Butterfly Pavilion – M > Beginning this Sunday, The Butterfly Pavilion is back at Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, offering guests the chance to admire hundreds of butterflies, native plants, and caterpillars all in one place. Tickets to the Pavilion are $10, which is on top of regular museum admission (starting at $18 per adult). The Pavilion is set to run through August 24, 2025. More info here.
Go Metro: Take the E Line to Expo Park / USC station.
Three Top Picks To Do This Sunday
M = Less than .5 miles from an L.A. Metro Station, FA = Free Admission
César Chávez Family Day at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes – M FA > On Sunday, LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes celebrations activist and labor leader César Chávez with a day of dance, art, garden workshops, a cooking demo, and guest performances by Folklorico Tierra Blanca and Folklorico Y Arriba Mexico. The program runs from noon to 4 p.m. All free to attend. More info here.
Turiya Rising at The Hammer – FA > The Turiya Rising series brings a selection of in-gallery musical events to The Hammer, showcasing artist performances on a stage designed by artist GeoVanna Gonzalezo for the new exhibition, Alice Coltrane, Monument Eternal. This Sunday, the series welcomes L.A.-based guitarist and composer Jeff Parker for a live set. It’s free to attend (as is admission to the museum), but entry to the performance is not guaranteed. Show starts at 5 p.m., and a ticket line will queue outside the galleries starting at 4 p.m. More info here.
Robot Karaoke at The Elysian Vault -> Wrap your weekend with a Sunday evening of chaotic musicalilty at The Elysian Theater’s Skunk Room. Robot Karaoke replaces the lyrics to any song with words from a specific text, then syncs each line syllable-for-syllable using a totally fancy algorithm. Think something like a Yelp review for psychics to the tune of Total Eclipse of the Heart. Each song has never been heard before and will never be heard again. Singers will include local comedians, karaoke ringers and audience volunteers (sing as a group too!). Tickets are $10. Show starts at 9 p.m. More info here.
