10 Spots For The Best Burgers in Los Angeles

Nothing is more satisfying than biting into the perfect burger.

Luckily here in L.A. we have some of the best burgers around.

From all American style cheeseburgers to a French onion soup burger to wagyu beef patties loaded with caramelized onions, it’s hard to choose when the options seem endless (and crazy delicious).

That said, after stuffing our faces doing some carefully crafted research, we think we’ve come up with a list (in no particular order) of the best that our city has to offer.

If nothing else, it’s the perfect introduction to getting your burger on in the city of angels.

1. In-N-Out

This family-run super chain has perfected the art of producing a simple, fresh and tasty burger. Quality beef patties, crisp lettuce, toasty buns and awesome sauce are just some of the things that make up the world famous burger. We Californians really have something to brag about with In-N-Out it’s a burger institution around here. The menu is simple but there is also a secret menu for folks who want to wild out! At the end of the day it doesn’t even matter how long you have to wait for that burger because it hits the spot every single time.

2. Umami

Umami Burgers 11 menu options all have a distinct taste from the truffle burger to the ahi tuna there seems to be something for everyone. A few weeks back I sampled the entire 9 course tasting platter, and the surprising standout was the hatch burger, which is a juicy patty ground in-house and served medium rare with roasted hatch chilies, smothered in house Cali cheese and garlic aioli. This burger has a very slight kick that blends perfectly with the creamy aioli and cheese.

3. Ledlow

The Ledlow griddled cheese burger is a straightforward take on a classic American style burger. Patrons can order the burger in a single, double or triple patty, stacked with American and cheddar cheese, red onion, dill pickle, dijon and a garlic aioli spread. The meal comes with a side of fires too!

4. Eggslut

Alvin Cailan’s popular stall at DTLA’s Grand Central Market serves up one deliciously runny burger. The Eggslut Cheeseburger made with American wagyu, caramelized onions,vinegary pickles and cheddar cheese is served with a over-medium egg on a brioche bun. This is fast becoming a lunch time hit and will probably attract an even larger line to the establishment. So come early,  it’s totally well wroth the trouble.

5. Apple Pan

Opened since 1947 and still making “Best of” burger lists year after year the owners of the Apple Pan sure know how to make a burger. The burger and pie joint has remained pretty much the same since the 40’s with counter dining, soda pop served in an old school cone cup and a cash only rule. If you like BBQ sauce order the Hickory Burger their 1947 original is super juicy and smothered in their own in house BBQ sauce, toped with pickles, mayo and lettuce served hot off the grill. Do yourself a favor and add the Tillamook cheddar for an extra 50cents.

6. Father’s Office

This nationally acclaimed Los Angeles Gastropub by Chef Sang Yoon is home to one of the most talked about burgers in town the “Office Burger.” No substitutions are allowed on the burger and thats alright with us, trust them they know what they are doing. Caramelized onion, bacon, gruyere, maytag blue cheese and arugula make up this unique and in demand burger.

7. Barrel & Ashes

Timothy Hollingsworth’s new barbecue joint in Studio City is an exciting edition to the Valley. A native Texan Hollingsworth knows his way around a grill and has started serving a burger during lunchtime. The lunch time burger comes with Southern notes through house-smoked bacon and a tomato marmalade in the mix. Since Hollingsworth hails from Thomas Keller’s three Michelin Star Napa Valley restaurant The French Laundry you can trust that you are in for a real treat.

8. Plan Check Kitchen + Bar

The PC Burger from Plan Check is making a name for it’s self in the burger world, the juicy wagyu patty is smothered in americanized dashi cheese, ketchup leather, schmaltz onions and mixed pickles stack on a crunch bun.

9. Pie ‘n Burger

This old school lunch counter has been serving the city of Pasadena since 1963. You can’t go wrong with their classic burger it’s topped with a leaf of lettuce, American cheese, pickles, a house-made Thousand Island and served on a butter-brushed bun. Grab a slice of pie to finish off your meal!

10. Petit Trois

Inspired by Chicago’s most famous double cheeseburger from Au Cheval, super star Chef Ludo Lefebvre takes a French approach to burger making. Ludo’s Big Mec at Petit Trois comes with two 4-ounce patties of prime beef covered in a generous amount of caramelized onion soup, red wine bordelaise and garlic aioli. Guaranteed to fall apart in your hands after a few bites this perfect union between a burger and French onion soup is pure heaven.
