Sometimes when you’re figuring out what to do with your weekend, what you really need is just a little help from your friends.
To that end, we asked a few of our fellow L.A. bloggers, podcasters, and social media brethren to help us out with their top picks for this weekend, and then we combined those choices with one pick from both Christina and I.

The result is a quick list of some of the absolutely best stuff happening in Los Angeles over the next couple days.
Hope it helps you find something awesome to do.
Have a great weekend!
1. LA Taco Fest
Picked by Gwen Paja, aka The LA Girl.
Gwen says:
“Because who doesn’t want to stuff their face with tacos? The LA Taco Festival is free and open to the public and all ages. The event benefits a Boyle Heights based non-profit, Jovenes Inc. that helps homeless youth attain permanent housing. So enjoy some music and lots of tacos at Grand Park this Saturday while supporting a great cause!”
If you want a special insight in to the event, be sure to give a listen to the latest episode of the the This Is The City Podcast hosted by our favorite DTLA resident podcast, Gerren Kelsaw.
2. Gainax Tribute Art Show
Picked by Jonathan Bilski, creator of Things to do in LA.
Jonathan says:
“Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL, Gurren Lagann and Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, all these anime classics will be paid tribute from talented artists, many of which are animators at the Q Pop Gainax Tribute Art Show. If a fan of some of the best anime to come out of Japan, you need to see what these talented artists have done given too much free time and love of characters. We wonder how dirty the Panty & Stocking art will be, this company is known for its fan service. Until next time.”
3. Chinatown Summer Nights
Traffic maven Kajon Cermak (from KCRW) wants everyone to make sure they head down to Chinatown on Saturday for the final Summer Nights event of the season.

4. Levitt Pavillon LA
Picked by Gerren Kelsaw, creator of the This Is The City Podcast.
Gerren says:
“The free shows of the summer continue with La Misa Negra Saturday night at Levitt Pavillion. La Misa Negra is a 9-piece, Oakland based band that plays a blend of 50’s and 60’s style cumbias and afro-columbian music. A quick listen to their soundcloud will have you in a danceable mood immediately.”
More information on this Levitt Pavilion concert.
5. A Go Topless Event in Venice
Kristen Rae Lepore, social producer for KPCC, reminded us that this weekend features National Go Topless Day, an event held in cities around the world where citizens are invited to stand up for women’s right by going topless in public. The local Los Angeles event will take place in Venice Beach starting at 2:00pm.
@WeLikeLA I'm excited to shop at @superkingmarket and attempt to make grape leaves. Also @gotopless in Venice; Taco Fest at @GrandPark_LA!

6. FYF Fest
Picked by Christina Minh, co-founder of We Like L.A.
Christina says:
“The 12th-annual FYF Festival has a kick ass line-up with
Frank OceanKayne West, Morrissey, FKA twigs, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and many more on the bill. Taking place Saturday and Sunday at L.A. Sports Arena and Exposition Park FYF is sure to be a mad house – but in a good way.”
7. Free Guardians of the Galaxy Screening in NoHo
Picked by Brian Champlin, co-founder of We Like L.A.
(That’s me, and yup, I’m going to quote myself, hah!)
“Just saw this flick on T.V. again week and can confirm: Still awesome. Can’t be the price of FREE, either!”
More information on the screening.
