Things To Do in Los Angeles This Week [10-31-2022 to 11-4-2022]

Happy Halloween, Angelenos! Whether you’re planning to dress up, or looking for something more artsy and chill, there’s plenty to pick from this week.

From October 31 to November 4 in L.A., catch Halloween comedy at Guerrilla Tacos, new exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth, 24th Street Theatre’s annual Dia de los Muertos block party, AFI Fest, Eataly L.A.’s 5th anniversary, the San Pedro Art Walk, Chinatown First Fridays, and more. Things To Do This Week

Guerrilla Tacos’ Halloween Comedy Event -> Guerrilla Tacos will host its third annual Halloween event on Monday, October 31. The restaurant will transform into a comedy club featuring a handful of stand up comedians, a costume contest for the public, spooky snacks and cocktails. Tickets cost $10 per person with a two-drink minimum. This is a 21+ event. More info here.

Electric Dusk Halloween Double-Feature -> Glendale-based Electric Dusk Drive-In offers a spooky double-bill for this Halloween Monday. Catch Hocus Pocus followed by Halloween (1979). Doors open at 5 p.m. More info and ticket pricing here.

Free Ice Cream at Dear Bella on Halloween -> For the second year in a row, Dear Bella Creamery will offer a free scoop to costumed kids (12 and under) and/or a free “pup cone” for any costumed doggies on Halloween (that’s this Monday). The offer is good at Dear Bella’s Hollywood or Costa Mesa location. You just need to say “trick or treat” to unlock freebie.

Triple Feature at New Beverly -> Two movies not enough? New Beverly Cinema hosts a triple-feature of classic horror on Halloween Monday, beginning with I Walked With a Zombie (1943) followed by The Leopard Man (1943), then The Ghost Ship (1943). Tickets to see all three are $12. More info here.

Treat Trail at One Colorado -> Old Pasadena’s One Colorado hosts a free family-friendly Halloween activation this Monday that includes a treat trail for kids, photo ops, and a community screening of Ghostbusters in the courtyard. Events run from 4 to 8 p.m. Get more info here.

Día de los Muertos and Halloween Event in Mid City -> The Mid City West Neighborhood Council will host a Día de los Muertos and Halloween bash Pan Pacific Park Recreation Center on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Expect candy for the kids, games, and a costume contest. Free to attend. More info here.

Last Scares of the Season -> A number of haunted/immersive/spooky events close their runs on Halloween Monday, including Urban Death at Zombie Joe’s, Carved at Descanso Gardens, Nights of the Jack, Haunt O’ Ween LA, Cemetery Lane, and the LA Haunted Hayride.

Bob Baker Marionette Theater: 60 Years of Joy & Wonder -> Forest Lawn Museum in Glendale has a brand new retrospective that traces the six decade history of the iconic Bob Baker Marionette Theater, and features close to 100 artifacts, including hand-crafted marionettes, original concept art, archival photographs, an animatronic band, and more. Forest Lawn Museum is free to visit Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Joy & Wonder remains on view through March 19, 2023. More info here.

New Exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth -> Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles opened three new exhibitions this past week, including one featuring over 100 works from artist/director/photographer Cindy Sherman as well as a solo exhibition of works from British artist Martin Creed. Hauser & Wirth is free to visit, open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. More info here.

Dia de los Muertos Festival -> 24th Street Theatre’s annual Dia de los Muertos celebration returns This Wednesday with a day of dance performances, food vendors, face painting and altars. Musical headliners for the event include singer Angel Peaches with the Combi Darks band, duo Ampersan from Mexico City, and singer Margarita Luna de Guadalajara. The evening opens with a procession led by ceremonial dancers Comparsa de Chinelos Amigos de Morelos. All free to attend. More info here.

AFI Fest -> The 2022 edition of AFI FEST brings a packed slate of features and shorts to the heart of Hollywood starting this Wednesday. The festival opens with the world premiere of Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, then continues with four days of films, closing with a screening of The Fabelmans on Sunday. Tickets for individual screenings start as low as $17, and fest passes (getting you into six screenings) are $100. Get more info here.

First Wednesday Lecture at The AoP -> Every first Wednesday evening of the month, the Aquarium of the Pacific hosts a free evening guest lecture and cocktail reception at the Pacific Visions Theater. For November 2, urban ethnographer and sociologist Liz Koslov stops by to discuss climate change, and specifically how it affects coastal environments and cities (like ours!). Lillias White & Seth Rudetsky at The Wallis -> Are you the kind of person that can’t get Broadway off the brain? This Thursday, Tony, Obie, and Emmy Award-winner, and Hadestown star Lillias White makes her Wallis debut with a special evening of song and storytelling hosted by SiriusXM’s Seth Rudetsky. Do We Even Need a City Council? -> This Thursday, Zócalo Public Square and KCRW co-host a special panel featuring Public Access Democracy director Leonora Camner, California 100 executive director Karthick Ramakrishnan, and Weingart Foundation president and CEO Miguel Santana. KCRW’s All Things Considered host Janaya Williams moderates as the group dissects the current political turmoil afflicting Los Angeles, and ponders what the future holds for L.A.s most powerful legislative body. Like all Zócalo talks, the event is free to attend, and a reception with complimentary beverages will follows the talk. San Pedro First Thursday Art Walk -> The San Pedro Art Walk celebrates its 25th anniversary this Thursday with a roaming Dixieland musician, gallery tours, and local vendors. Free to attend, and runs 5:30 to 9 p.m. More info here.

Glendale Arts Solo Performance Festival -> Starting this Thursday, Glendale Arts’ inaugural Solo Performance Festival features three nights of performances by Los Angeles-based artists Ernie Silva, Ruthy Otero, and Eternal Mind. The shows will be held at Antaeus Theatre, and tickets run $25 for each evening. Get more info here.

First Fridays in Chinatown -> Galleries, restaurants and other creative businesses in L.A. Chinatown band together for an evening of extended hours every first Friday of the month from 5 to 9 p.m. Read the full list of participants here.

Bixby Knolls First Friday Art Walk -> The monthly Art Walk along Atlantic Ave in Long Beach hosts a special Dia de los Muertos edition this Friday, featuring a community altar, mariachi, and Aztec dance performances. Free to attend. Runs from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. More info here.

Genever’s New Fall Cocktail Menu ->  Genever’s latest cocktail menu finds inspiration from the ethereal music of the Cocteau Twins. Dreamed up by Bar director Kelso Norris and the Genever team the “cocteaus” are $14 and named after the songs of the shoegaze bands like “Sugar Hiccup”, “Heaven or Las Vegas”, and “50/50 Clown”. 

Eataly LA’s 5th Anniversary -> On Thursday, Eataly transforms their marketplace into an “all-you-can-Eataly” event to celebrate their fifth year in Los Angeles. The ticketed affair ($125) includes endless food, Italian cocktails, live entertainment, a photo booth experience and live cooking demos. More info here.

Nosotros Tequila & Mezcal Master Class at The Green Room -> This Tuesday, Burbank speakeasy The Green Room hosts a master class with Nosotros Tequila, winner for “Best Tequila” in the 2017 World Spirits Competition. Guests will be guided through four Nosotros tequilas and mezcals, each paired with elevated bites by The Green Room’s Executive Chef Czarina Sico. The master class cost $65 per person and reservations are available on OpenTable.

Día de los Muertos at KA’TEEN -> Wes Avila’s coastal Mexican restaurant KA’TEEN celebrates Día de los Muertos with a dinner and a show for guests this Tuesday and Wednesday. Expect tequila and mezcal cocktail specials, live entertainment such as fire dancers and a DJ. An off-menu dish created by Avila will also be available for the evening as well as KA’TEEN’s a la carte menu. Reservations are available via Resy.
