After a jam-packed weekend of events, the free concert schedule in Los Angeles gets a little lighter as we head into the July 4 holiday. But don’t worry, there are still plenty of options.

This June 26-30 in L.A., you’ll find Summer Night Cinema at The Hammer, an LGBTQ Elders Pride Party, a zine-making workshop at Oxy Arts, Pride Night at The Grove, Glenn Kaino’s new exhibition at JANM, an AAPI-themed stand-up show in Chinatown, and more. Enjoy your week!

Summer Night Cinema: 50 Years of Hip-Hop FA TP > The Hammer’s Summer Night Cinema series celebrates 50 years of Hip-Hop this Tuesday with a screening of Earnest Dickerson’s 1992 film Juice (co-starring Omar Epps and Tupac Shakur). The the coming-of-age drama tells the story of four friends from Harlem who embark on a doomed corner store stickup. The film is free to attend (parking extra), and no tickets are required. Moonlight Movies on the BeachFA TP > Long Beach’s signature free summer outdoor movie series, continues their 2023 season this Tuesday at Granada Beach with a screening of Stand By Me, and then on Thursday catch a screening of The Princess and the Frog at LBCC Liberal Arts Campus. Screenings starts around sunset. Free parking (limited) available after 6 p.m. at both locations. Early arrival highly recommended. More info here.

LGBTQ Elders: Pride PartyFA > On Wednesday, all who consider themselves LGBTQ older adults, seniors, aged 50+, or elders are invited to a special Pride Party at Plummer Park in West Hollywood. Co-sponsored by WeHo Pride, the event is free to attend and centers around sharing stories of LGBTQ experiences and memories. Guests are invited to share their stories and LGBTQ poets from Pride Poets will transform the stories into unique poems. Food and beverages will be served and attendees will receive a gift bag sponsored by Friends of the West Hollywood Library, Junior Cookies, Hair by Fabian, Amy Smith Art, Atelier Zo, Stuzo Clothing, and more. Mister Cartoon’s Just My ImaginationFA > The newest exhibition at Beyond The Streets flagship location (Control Gallery on 434 Fairfax) features the Los Angeles debut show for San Pedro-born tattoo and graffiti artist Mister Cartoon (a.k.a. Mark Machado). Cartoon’s Just My imagination includes new airbrushed paintings and graffiti’d works on paper, plus a vintage custom art car called, “The Gangster Squad.” The exhibition is free to visit Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. More info here.

The Rabbit Hutch at ALOUDM FA > In the next installment of the Library Foundation’s ALOUD series, author Tess Gunty comes to Mark Taper Auditorium at Central Library this Wednesday to discuss her debut novel (and National Book Award-winner) The Rabbit Hutch. Summer in San Gabriel ConcertFA > The City of San Gabriel continues its summer programming this Thursday with a free concert by Latin Jazz artist Louie Cruz Beltran, who will perform at The Mission Playhouse. Starts at 7 p.m. More info here.

Pride-Themed Zine Making FA > This Thursday, Oxy Arts hosts a free Pride-themed zine making workshop led by artists Rory Hayes and Cielo Mansilla, using the gallery’s latest exhibition for the sake of dancing in the street as the jumping off point for inspiration. Runs 5:30 to 7 p.m. Free, but RSVP required. Recommended for ages 16+. More info here.

Joke Lang M > Joke Lang is a monthly comedy show at Chinatown’s Song Bird Cafe that showcases up-and-coming Filipino and AAPI comedians. This Thursday, the lineup includes John Yabes, Nina Gosiengfiao, Andy Rider, Kristel Dela Rosa, Jeena Bloom, Brent Weinbach. Show starts at 8 p.m., to be followed by a disco after-party at 9:30. Shakespeare By the SeaFA > The 2023 season of Shakespeare By The Sea continues this Thursday to Saturday at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro with a production of Hamlet. All shows start at 8 p.m. Free to attend. More info here.

Pride Night at The GroveFA > This Friday, The Grove and the Original Farmers Market are hosting a festive event to close out PRIDE month. Special guest Lance Bass helps kick off an evening that includes live music, a pet parade and adoption event hosted by Wags & Walks, and charity bingo ($60 to play) with proceeds to benefit LA Pride. The free event runs from 5 to 9:30 p.m. More info here.

Glenn Kaino: Aki’s MarketM TP > This Friday, the Japanese American National Museum welcomes artist Glenn Kaino’s latest work, Aki’s Market, which processes intragenerational trauma caused by the imprisonment of Japanese Americans during World War II by recreating a neighborhood market owned and operated by the artist’s grandparents in the 1950’s and 60’s. Through a combination of virtual reality and a physical installation, Kaino’s work transports viewers back in time to experience life in the years following the mass incarceration. Adult admission at JANM starts at $16. The exhibition remains on view through January 28, 2024. More info here.

Summer Lobster Dinner for Two at The Palm -> Starting today, old school steakhouse The Palm will offer a Summer Lobster Dinner for Two. The three course prix-fixe menu is available at both Beverly Hills and Downtown Los Angeles locations and runs $139. Diners will start with a choice of soup or salad, and then a Jumbo Nova Scotia Lobster will be served as the entree. Also on the table is the option to make it a surf ‘n’ turf style for an additional fee. Fun fact: The Palm has been offering surf ‘n’ turf since the 1940s! The meal wraps up with a choice of either Tiramisu or a slice of Junior’s Cheesecake. The Summer Lobster Dinner for Two is available for a limited time, from June 26 through July 9.

A New Spritz and Negroni Menu at margot -> There’s a new Spritz and Negroni menu at Culver City’s coastal Mediterranean restaurant, margot. Just in time for al fresco dining, the menu features seasonal spritzes for one or in large-format sizing for groups. Variations on the Negroni are available in full or half sizes. Try a little bit of everything and linger at this rooftop hotspot.

A Red Hot Chili Peppers Dinner -> This Tuesday, Hollywood’s Grandmaster Recorders will launch a seasonal musical dining series starting with the music of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Guests are treated to a five-course menu featuring a variety of peppers from spicy, mild to numbing paired with a Milk Punch cocktail for when a cool down is necessary. Reservations for the dinner cost $90 and can be made through Resy

Rosé Cupcakes at Sprinkles -> Sprinkles latest collaboration is a perfect pairing for the summertime. Strawberries and rosé come together for a tasty and pink Hampton Water Rosé cupcake, launching this Friday. Available through July 16, the special cupcake is made up of cake infused with Hampton Water Rosé piped in the center with fresh strawberry jam, and topped with strawberry frosting. Hampton Water Wine is a label by renowned winemaker Gérard Bertrand, Jon Bon Jovi and son Jesse Bongiovi.
