As we leap headlong into the gloom of June, we’re eyeing a flurry of monthly faves to populate our social calendar.

For June 3-7 in Los Angeles, you’ll find the Benson Movie Interruption back at Dynasty Typewriter, a Hip-Hop Block Party at The GRAMMY Museum, the Palos Verdes Street Fair and Music Festival, First Fridays in Frogtown, Synth Club at Common Space, Experimental Sounds of Latin America at the JACCC, and more. Synth Club at Common Space – FA >  Every first Monday of the month, the LA Synth Club hosts a monthly meet-up and jam session at Common Space Brewery in Hawthorne. Musicians are invited to bring their favorite synthesizers, drum machines, or any other electronic instruments to experiment / jam with. Runs 6 to 10 p.m. More info here.

Benson Movie InterruptionM > What’s better than seeing a terrible/awesome movie with your friends and making fun of it while you watch it? One word: Celebrities! This Tuesday at Dynasty Typewriter, Doug Benson hosts a “your choice” version of his Movie Interrupted series with special guests including Mark Smalls and John Marshall. Guests are invited to bring in a Blue Ray / DVD of their choice, and the audience will vote on what to watch before the show begins. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets are $20 in advance, or $25 the day-of. More info here.

First Wednesday at AoPTP > Every first Wednesday evening of the month, the Aquarium of the Pacific hosts a guest lecture and cocktail reception at the Pacific Visions Theater. For June 5, session biology experts Dr. Robert Fisher from the US Geological Survey and Erin Lundy from the Aquarium of the Pacific will discuss local frogs, their habitat loss, climate change, and efforts to aid in their population recovery. While there, you can check out the Aquarium’s newest exhibit, FROGS: Facing a Changing World. Tickets are $5 in advance, or $10 the day of. Runs 7 to 9 p.m. More info here.

Bear City ComedyFA > Every Wednesday, you can catch free comedy at Que Sera in Long Beach presented by Bear City, featuring a rotating lineup of up-and-comers from Netflix, Comedy Central, HBO, and beyond. This week’s show includes Subhah Agarwal (HBO, Comedy Central), Felicia Folkes (Don’t Tell Comedy), Aaron Colbert (Comedy Store), Eli Olsberg (TBS, E!), and Wyatt Cote (World Series of Comedy). Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 7:30. Cash bar, but no drink minimum. More info here.

GRAMMY Museum® Hip-Hop Block Party M > On Thursday, join the GRAMMY Museum® for a block party inspired by the Hip-Hop America: The Mixtape Exhibit. An evening affair from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., the experience features dance showcases, a fashion show, pop up art and live performances. Celebrate Black Music Month with curated vibes by DJ R-Tistic and immerse yourself in hip-hop culture across the Museum’s floors. Tickets cost $10. More info here.

DTLA Art NightM FA > DTLA Art Night runs every first Thursday of the month, activating 25+ galleries along Downtown’s Historic Core all free to attend. More info here.

Summer Music at the Original Farmers Market FA > Summer Music is back at the Original Farmers Market plaza on Thursdays from June 6 to August 29. The series kicks off this week with a performance by Dave Stuckey & the Hot House Gang. Runs 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. More info here.

Palos Verdes Street Fair and Music Festival – FA > This Friday, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce is hosting a family friendly fair that includes a carnival, food vendors and live entertainment in the heart of the Rolling Hills Estate neighborhood. Friday Night Wine Tastings at Barnsdall ParkM > After a five-year hiatus, Friday night wine tasting events are back at the Barnsdall Art Park West Lawn. A $45 ticket gets you a flight of wine curated by Silverlake Wine, plus access to a rotation of food trucks, all supported by tunes from local DJs and sweet sunset views of the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Park Observatory. Frogtown First Fridays FA TP > The Frogtown neighborhood celebrate LGBTQ+ pride with a family-friendly event activation this Friday, featuring participating 15 venues including galleries, restaurants and shops, all adjacent to the L.A. River Path in Elysian Valley. Guests can see new art exhibits, enjoy free or low-cost art activities, giveaways, DJ’s and live music. Runs 4 to 9 p.m. Free to attend. More info here.

Bixby Knolls First Fridays -> The June edition of First Fridays along Atlantic Ave in Long Beach will be a celebrate of artist Bob Ross. Expect live music, extended hours at participating businesses, and activiations, including a dine & draw session and Bob Ross Dress-up. Runs 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. More info here.

Experimental Sounds of Latin AmericaTP > Head to the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center on Friday to experience a sonic trip through Latin America set against a private Japanese Garden. Music will includes albums from Gal Costa, Rubén Rada, Susana Baca, Vytas Brenner, Sui Generis, Café Tacvba, and more, all curated by the team behind In Sheep’s Clothing and Osmar Romero, co-founder of Caracas-based record store El Marchante. Guests can also enjoy select Japanese whiskey, beer, and wine offerings for purchase. Entry is $12. Starts at 7 p.m. Get more info here.

Jazz at LACMA – FA > The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s annual Friday Night Jazz series is back for a season of free weekly concerts at Smidt Welcome Plaza through November. This week: a performance by Teodross Avery Quartet. Remember that LACMA is free to visit for L.A. County Residents (with I.D.) on weekdays after 3 p.m. Seating is first come, first serve. Botanica Tinned Fish Happy Hour -> At Botanica in Silver Lake, the happy hour is a treat for the senses. Guests can create their own tinned fish board, priced between $12 and $18 per tin, accompanied by an array of sauces, crackers, and baguette. Enhance your board with housemade olives, feta, and pickles for about $5 each. Sip on drink specials like the Vermouth Spritz or the Gilda Martini, garnished with olive, anchovy, and Basque pepper, ranging from $10 to $13. Tinned Fish happy hour is held Wednesday through Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. 

Wanderlust Creamery Cookbook Celebration -> On Tuesday Adrienne Borlogan, the founder of Wanderlust Creamery, is releasing her first cookbook, “Wanderlust Creamery Presents: The World of Ice Cream”. To celebrate, all Wanderlust Creamery locations will offer a free scoop of ice cream on June 4 to anyone who buys the cookbook in-store or has pre-ordered it, with a valid receipt. In addition, Adrienne Borlogan will host a talk at Now Serving on June 6 to discuss the cookbook. After the talk, attendees will be treated to scoops of ice cream. Tickets ($12-$33) for the event can be purchased through Now Serving.

Brooklyn Kura x Tsubaki -> Brian Polen, co-owner of Brooklyn Kura, a New York sake brewery, will be at Tsubaki on Thursday, June 6, serving pours alongside a special menu crafted by chef de cuisine Klementine Song. In addition to Tsubaki’s regular dinner offerings, the special menu will feature dishes like Pastrami Yakisoba with Housemade Brisket and Sauerkraut, Miso Cream Cheese with Ritz crackers and Pizza Toast on milk bread with maitake mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers. Reservations are encouraged, walk-ins are welcomed.
