Astronomy on Tap Los Angeles – M FA > Astronomy on Tap returns on Monday with a pair of scientific talks (helped along by trivia, live music, and beer) at Dog Haus Biergarten in Pasadena. For the June event, catch presentations from NASA Scientist Dr. Robert Hurt (“When Data Isn’t Enough: Illustrating Astrophysics for the Public”) as well as recent Caltech graduate Xander Hall (“Using Machine Learning and Citizen Science to Classify Supernovae”). Righteous Trash Cinema -> Do you love movies so bad they’re actually good? Is unintentional comedy your favorite brand of humor. A new show at The Elysian Theater pairs the best (and most obscure) unintentionally funny films ever made with topical standup act to form Righteous Trash Cinema. This Tuesday, catch a screening of The Survivalist (1987), which the event promoters describe as the “most self-righteous piece of Cold war-era patriot-porn ever made.” Tickets are $20. MUSE/IQUE Presents “The Judas of Folk: Dylan Plugs In” – FA > The second annual MUSE/IQUE Open House feature a pair of two0night live music events celebrating the iconic American artist Bob Dylan. The final two performances will be held at Skirball Cultural Center on Tuesday and Wednesday, with pre-show celebration starting at 6:30 p.m. each night. Free to attend. More info here.
Hollywood Fringe Festival -> Hollywood Fringe Festival is back with dozens of venues, including Zephyr Theatre, The Broadwater, and Three Clubs, hosting a huge slate of comedy, ensemble theatre, dance and immersive performances during the two and a half week run. The official festival will run from June 13-30, followed by an Awards Ceremony on July 1. Highlight this week includes award winning dance artist Christina Evans at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Moonlight Movies on the Beach – FA TP > Long Beach’s signature beachside summer cinema series returns for 2024 starting this Tuesday with a screening of Kung Fu Panda 4 at Granada Beach. Movie starts around sunset (8 to 8:30 p.m.). Free to attend, and parking is free after 6 p.m., though spots are limited. More info here.

Sketch Party LA – FA > Sketch Party’s twice-monthly drawing/drinking meet-up is back at Benny Boy Brewing this Tuesday. They’ll hook you up with sketch paper, pens, pencils, and markers, then it’s up to you to create, mingle, hang out, and enjoy BB’s solid lineup of craft beers and ciders. Flux, Summer 2024 – FA TP > On Wednesday, The Flux screening series at the Hammer brings together the creative community to celebrate remarkable short films and music videos from all over the world. Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival – FA > This Thursday at Marine Stadium Long Beach, the largest dragon boat competitions in California also include a public festival featuring Chinese traditional art demonstrations, acrobats, dance, music and martial arts performances. Summer in San Gabriel – FA > The city of San Gabriel is hosting a series of free outdoor concerts, movies, and events at multiple locations throughout the summer.. This Thursday, you can check out a concert from country band The Silverados at the Mission District, followed by a screening of Wonka at Vincent Lugo Park. More info here.
JANM After-hours Art-Making Series – M > This Thursday, the Japanese American National Museum continues Asobi! at JANM, a new after-hours series scheduled from 7 to 9 pm. Local artists will present their unique work through interactive demonstrations, allowing attendees to create their own distinctive art pieces to take home. Admission for the event is $10, and guests can enjoy beverages from Sanzo, cocktails from Wolf & Crane and beers from Brewyard. This event is only for folks 21 years or older. More info here.
KCRW Summer Nights @ CAAM – M FA TP > This Friday, KCRW Summer Nights takes over The California African American Museum for an after hours affair featuring live music, food trucks, a beer garden and access to the museum’s latests exhibits including solo exhibitions by Simone Leigh, Paula Wilson, and Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, as well as historical looks at Black beach life and African Americans in rural California. Outdoor Movies at the Skirball -> The Skirball’s annual outdoor movies series continues this Friday with a screening of the Where The Wild Things Are (2009). Keep in mind guests are invited to come early to view the latest Skirball exhibition Wild Things Are Happening: The Art of Maurice Sendak. Tickets start at $20. Parking is free. Shakespeare By the Sea – FA > The 27th anniversary season of Shakespeare By the Sea continues this week with Friday and Saturday performances of with a production of Shakespeare’s Henry IV at The Bandshell at Recreation Park in Long Beach . As in past year’s, all SBTS shows are free to attend, but donations are gladly accepted. Performances run at locations throughout L.A. and Orange County through Aug. 3. The Music Center’s Dance DTLA – M FA > Free evening dance parties are back at The Music Center’s Jerry Moss Plaza. At Dance DTLA, instructors will be on hand to teach guests easy-to-follow steps, allowing everyone to get into the groove right from the jump. Friday Night Movie at Ovation Hollywood – M FA > Ovation Hollywood’s monthly Friday Movie Nights series pops up this Friday with a screening of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Friday Night Wine Tastings at Barnsdall Park – M > After a five-year hiatus, Friday night wine tasting events are back at the Barnsdall Art Park West Lawn. A $45 ticket gets you a flight of wine curated by Silverlake Wine, plus access to a rotation of food trucks, all supported by tunes from local DJs and sweet sunset views of the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Park Observatory. Eataly LA x Crudo e Nudo -> Eataly is bringing back its popular Sotto le Stelle guest chef series at Capri. On Thursday, June 27, diners can indulge in a four-course culinary collaboration with Chef Brian Bornemann of Crudo e Nudo.
