Moonlight Movies on the Beach – FA TP > Long Beach’s signature beachside summer cinema series is back for 2024, continuing with screenings in July split between two locations. This week, catch The Meg on Tuesday at Granada Beach and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 at Long Beach City College, Liberal Arts Campus on Thursday. Movies starts around sunset (8 to 8:30 p.m.). Free to attend, and parking is free after 6 p.m., though spots are limited. More info here.
Free Second Tuesdays – FA > The Los Angeles County Museum of Art offer free admission every second Tuesday of the month. Plus, remember that the nearby La Brea Tar Pits Museum offers free admission to LA County Residents on weekdays from 3 to 5 p.m. Make a day of it!
The Moth StorySLAM -> The Moth is back at Los Globos this Tuesday with an evening of open mic, competitive storytelling centered around the human experience. This week’s theme centers in on stories temptation, willpower, and resolve. Tickets are $17.50 The show starts at 7:30 p.m. More info here.
Shakespeare in the Park – FA TP > The Independent Shakespeare Co. is once again bringing a summer of the Bard to Griffith Park, but unlike in past years, the 2024 season will focus on a single production. From July 10 to September 1, catch Wednesday-through-Sunday performances of As You Like It at ISC’s familiar space near the Old Zoo. The main show starts at 7 p.m., and you can catch a pre-show, immersive prologue at 6 p.m. Free to attend, but donations heartily encouraged. More info here.
Olivo Amigo & Benny Boy Brewing Olive Oil Class -> Learn a few tricks for the kitchen and get a taste of Spain this Wednesday as Benny Boy Brewing and Olivo Amigo team up for a hands-on olive oil class. $40 tickets include one drink ticket (beer or cider) plus the class and ingredients. 21+ only. Shakespeare By the Sea – FA > The 27th anniversary season of Shakespeare By the Sea continues this week at Valley Park in Hermosa Beach with a production of Shakespeares lost play Cardenio: Double Falsehood on Wednesday and Henry IV on Thursday. All shows are free to attend, but donations are gladly accepted. Performances run at locations throughout L.A. and Orange County through Aug. 3. More info here.
Night Market at The Bungalow Santa Monica -> This Thursday, Anderson .Paak returns to Night Market at The Bungalow Santa Monica for a special DJ set. Tickets are $20 at the door, with all proceeds supporting the .Paak House foundation. Self Help Me w/ Jenny Yang – M > Jenny Yang’s competitive self care comedy show returns to Dynasty Typewrtier this Thursday with a lineup that includes Reggie Watts, Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon. Tickets cost $20. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. More info here.
Culture Fest at the Mission District – FA > Culture Fest lights up the Mission District this Thursday night celebrating global culture through performances, food, live music, arts and crafts, community booths, and family-friendly activities. In partnership with The Music Center’s Arts Grown L.A., performances for the series include Sakai Flamenco, Melody of China, the Korean Classical Music and Dance Company, and Alfredo Rolando Ortiz’s World Adventures with My Harp. Sunset Swim at Annenberg Community Beach House -> After a long (and hot) week, cool off with a Sunset Swim this Friday at the oceanside pool located on the historic former estate of actress Marion Davies. The adults-only session runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Registration is $10. More info here.
Outdoor Movies at the Skirball – > The Skirball’s annual outdoor movies series returns this month with a screening of Pan’s Labyrinth on Friday. Plus: guests are invited to come early to view the latest Skirball exhibition Wild Things Are Happening: The Art of Maurice Sendak. Dance DTLA at The Music Center – M FA > The Music Center’s Dance DTLA hosts an evening of Reggaeton this Friday, with instructors will be on hand to teach guests easy-to-follow steps, allowing everyone to get into the groove right from the jump. South Bay Greek Festival -> The South Bay Greek Festival returns for a three-day affair (this Friday to Sunday) at St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in Redondo Beach. Maestro of the Movies at Hollywood Bowl – TP > Legendary film composer John Williams has curated three nights (this Friday to Sunday) of movie music with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The program includes Williams’ iconic scores from Star Wars and Superman as well as music from Hollywood’s Golden Age, all backed by film clips on the big screen. Because of Williams’ ongoing health concerns, David Newman will conduct all three evenings. Available tickets start as low as $59. Get more info here.
Summer of Salsa – M FA > The LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes Summer of Salsa series kicked off last month, but the rhythm continues one Friday each month through the end of summer, highlighting some of the city’s best salsa and Cuban bands in the process. Barbie Movie Screening at Petersen Automotive Museum – FA > This Friday, the Petersen Automotive Museum is hosting a panel with the creative minds behind Mattel’s beloved toys. The iconic pink Barbie Corvette will be on display, followed by a special screening of the Barbie movie. The event is free and open to all. Friday Night Wine Tastings at Barnsdall Park – M > After a five-year hiatus, Friday night wine tasting events are back at the Barnsdall Art Park West Lawn. A $45 ticket gets you a flight of wine curated by Silverlake Wine, plus access to a rotation of food trucks, all supported by tunes from local DJs and sweet sunset views of the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Park Observatory. Movies at The Steps – FA > Watch family friendly movies every Friday night at the Culver City Steps. Screenings start at 8:30 p.m. it’s free to attend and complimentary popcorn will be provided. This week they’ll screen Stuart Little. More info here.
Ivy Station Night Market Backyard Barbecue – M FA > Ivy Station’s monthly night market continues this Friday with BBQ pop ups, local vendors plus food trucks, craft beer, lawn games, and music. Free to attend as always. Runs 5 to 10 p.m. More info here.
Movies on the Roof -> Westfield Fashion Square is hosting another season of outdoor film screenings featuring cozy bean bag seating, sweet views, and a lineup of new blockbuster and classic films. Movies On The Roof runs every Friday and Saturday through the month, and tickets cost $20 per person. This weekend, catch West Side Story on Friday, then Moulin Rouge on Saturday. Jazz at LACMA – FA > The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s annual Friday Night Jazz series is back for a season of free weekly concerts at Smidt Welcome Plaza through November. This week: a performance by Marvin “Smitty” Smith Septet. Remember that LACMA is free to visit for L.A. County Residents (with I.D.) on weekdays after 3 p.m. Seating is first come, first serve. Jungle Disco Nights at KA’TEEN -> KA’TEEN’s Jungle Disco Nights in Hollywood offers a late-night dinner and dancing series every Friday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Guests can enjoy a formal dinner or grab a drink while dancing to special guest DJs. The Yucatan-inspired menu by Chef Wes Avila is available until midnight. Reservations for bottle service can be made via Resy. Walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis for bar seating.
DineLA Restaurant Week -> Los Angeles Restaurant Week returns this Friday, offering two weeks of delicious deals across L.A. County. Menus start at $15 and go up to $65 and above for tasting experiences at top restaurants. Highlights include $65 tasting menus from Joseon in Silver Lake and Here’s Looking at You in Koreatown. For a more modest meal, Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills offers a $25 lunch and dinner menu with a starter, Chicken Katsu Kare or Wagyu Chubby Curry, and dessert. At the $15 level, ten vendors at Grand Central Market, including Maple Block and Olio Pizzeria, are participating. McConnell’s is also offering a four-scoop flight from their See’s Candies collab, topped with See’s chocolate sprinkles, a McConnell’s cookie, and a See’s lollipop. DineLA runs from July 12-26.
