A Huge List of Things to Do For Halloween Season in L.A.

If you’re looking for Halloween fun this October around Los Angeles, you’ve come to the right place. In our latest We Like L.A.x Metro collaboration we’re rounding up the best frightful and fun activities happening in our city over the next month, ranging from family friendly pumpkin carving sessions and trick-or-treating to a dog-friendly celebration at the L.A. Arboretum, spooky cocktails in Koreatown, immersive haunts, and free movie screenings.

Best part? The vast majority of the best to-dos are also Metro accessible, which means you won’t be scared away by traffic concerns and/or parking costs. Now let’s check out that list!

2024 Halloween To-Dos

Boney Island at NHM (October 3-31) M -> The Nature Gardens of Natural History Museum Los Angeles are bringing back Boney Island for the Halloween season, and with it expect an array of glowing installations, spooky skeletons, and shadow puppetry interlaced with artistic performances, and real fossils from the museum’s collection. Plus, this year the attraction is folding in local food trucks and vendors, along with bar service guests who are 21+. Boney Island runs on select days throughout the month of October. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for kids 3-12. Go Metro: Take the E Line to USC / Expo Park station

BLOCtober Movie Nights (October 3, 10, 17, 24) M -> The Bloc and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema team up for a quartet of spooky movie classics screened on the outdoor lawn on the first four Thursdays of October. The lineup BLOCtober lineup includes Ghostbusters, Hocus Pocus, Monsters Inc., and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Go Metro: Take A, B, D, E or J Lines to 7th Street Metro Center

Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch (October 5-30) -> Culver City’s favorite pumpkin village offers plenty of family fun, including photo ops in front of giant pumpkin installations, a straw maze, a super slide, petting zoo, giant rocking horses, and pumpkin decorating sessions. Mr. Bones tickets cost $10 to $25 depending on date, and tickets for activities begin at $1 each.

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios (select dates through November 3) M -> Universal Studios’ fall horror takeover features the signature Terror Tram alongside 8 unique haunted houses based on Universal’s IP, including scares inspired by A Quiet Place, Ghostbusters, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. GA tickets start at $77, but VIP and express packages can push the price point well over $300 depending on the offer. Go Metro: Take the B Line to Universal / Studio City Station

The Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor (select dates through November 2) M -> After a four-year hiatus, Dark Harbor is back at the iconic Queen Mary with terrifying characters, haunted mazes, live entertainment, ghostly experiences, sinister eats and secret speakeasies hidden inside and around Dark Harbor’s mazes and attractions. Tickets start at $44.99. Go Metro: Take the A Line to Downtown Long Beach Station

Zombie Joe’s Urban Death: Tour of Terror (select dates through November 1) M -> Zombie Joe’s annual tradition of Urban Death is back with a brand new series of terrifying vignettes, bookended by walks through a creepy maze. Performances run on Fridays and Saturdays through October 28, with three bonus shows on Sunday, October 29, Monday October 30 and Halloween Tuesday. Advance tickets are $22 per person. Go Metro: Take the 224/501 to Lankershim / La Maida

Bob Baker’s Halloween Spooktacular! (select dates through November 10) M -> In Bob Baker’s Halloween Spooktacular!, over a hundred spirited puppets come to life, delivering an hour-long, family-friendly captivating Halloween revue. Highlights include Frankenstein’s toe-tapping debut and a cabaret of glow-in-the-dark skeletons. Tickets start at $25. Go Metro: Take Line 182 to York / Ave 49

MASQ! (select dates October 4 to November 10) -> MASQ! transforms Mountain View Mausoleum into a Venice Carnevale on the evening of a masked ball where a vengeful phantom appears, seeking justice. Presented by the Downtown Repertory Theater Company, known for sold out experience Fangs! and Witch!, this years production MASQ! will include unique individual experiences as you meet the people of La Serenissima and traverse a world of haunted mansions and an abandoned church. Tickets cost $92.55.

Carved at Descanso Gardens (nightly from October 4-30) -> Descanso Gardens’ family-friendly Carved returns for 2024 with a pumpkin wonderland featuring a new route, hundreds of carved pumpkins and kid-friendly activities. Tickets start at $35-$45 for non-members.

Black Lagoon Bar at The Normandie (October 10-21) M -> The touring, immersive Halloween pop-up bar Black Lagoon finds a new L..A. home this Halloween season at The Normandie Club in Koreatown. Over the last three weeks of October they’ll offer a delightful blend of spooky decor and scary good cocktails. Go Metro: Take Lines 20 or 720 to Wilshire / Normandie.

Enchanted Halloween at Discovery Cube L.A. (Oct. 12, 19, 26) M -> On three Saturdays this October, Discovery Cube L.A. offers an evening of science, magic, and family fun with a festive Halloween event featuring trick-or-treating stations, pumpkin catapults, a magic show, food trucks, and an LED robot dance party. Plus, you can check out over 50 exhibits on view at the museum. Tickets start at $24 for non-members. Go Metro: Take Line 690 to Foothill / Osborne

Shoreline Village Zombie Walk & Halloween Party (October 19) M -> The Shoreline Village Zombie Walk brings a slew of family-friendly activities to Downtown Long Beach, including kids face painting, special vendors, aerial artists, roaming scarers, and DJ sets, all leading up to the signature walk starting at 8 p.m. The festival runs from 4 to 10 p.m. and it’s free to attend, no tickets required. Boo-ze Bites & Frights (October 11-12 & 18-19) M -> For four nights this October, Street Food Cinema transforms Heritage Square Museum into a spooky playground featuring tours of the historic homes, adult trick-or-treating, food trucks, pop-up bar, and a double-feature of scary flicks for each evening. GA tickets start at $49.08 per person (including fees), and if you decide to drive it’s $31.07 for GA parking. Thankfully, it’s also very Metro-accessible. Go Metro: Take the A Line to Heritage Square Station

Fall Festival at the Original Farmers Market (October 19-20) M -> The two-day Fall Festival at the Original Farmers Market features a pumpkin patch, pig races, games, live music, and crafting for kids. Runs 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days. Go Metro: Take Line 16/217/218 to Fairfax / 3rd

Boo At The Zoo (October 19-20 & 26-27) M -> On back-to-back weekends heading into Halloween, swing over to the Los Angeles Zoo for Boo at the Zoo, a family-friendly assortment of seasonal activities, including animal pumpkin feedings, themed photo ops, trick-or-treating stations, story readings, and an extinct animal graveyard. Entry is included with zoo admission, which starts at $22 for adults. Go Metro: Take Line 96 to Autry National Ctr.

Redondo Beach 7th Annual Halloween (October 25) -> The 7th Annual Redondo Beach Pier Halloween event features a costume contest, DJ, Halloween themed photos, giveaways, prizes for best costumes and Trick-or-Treating on the Pier and Boardwalk (at participating businesses, while supplies last).

Halloween Spooktacular at One Colorado (October 26) M -> The Halloween Spooktacular at One Colorado in Old Pasadena starts with a free performance by the Bob Baker Marionettes then follows with an afternoon pumpkin decorating session (ticketed, $10 per pumpkin). Go Metro: Take the A Line to Memorial Park station

Barks & Boos at the Arboretum (October 26) M -> Barks & Boos offers a festive day of adoptable doggos and craft beers at the L.A. Arboretum, all with a Halloween twist. Guests can meet adoptable pups from Pasadena Humane Society at a mobile adoption truck, check out bites from local food trucks and brews from The Mt. Lowe Brewing Company. You can also bring your own dog to get a tour of the garden and enter a dog costume contest! Human costuming (matching the dogs) is highly encouraged! Tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 per dog. Go Metro: Take Line 26 to Baldwin / Arboretum

Afterlife Transfer Trolley (October 26, 27, 31; November 1) -> Public transit back from the dead? On four select dates this Halloween season, an Afterlife Transfer Trolley will run along over a 1.5 mile stretch of the Sunset Strip, offering free rides to 12 different stops along with some spooky, immersive fun along the way. All-ages welcome! Go Metro: Take Line 2 along Sunset Blvd.

Marina Spooktacular (October 26-27) M -> Marina del Rey’s Marina Spooktacular offers a two-day event featuring pumpkin decorating, arts and crafts, DJ music, food vendors, a graveyard treasure hunt and more, all hosted at Burton Chace Park. Runs 4 to 10 p.m. each day, and free to attend. Go Metro: Take Line 108 to Mindanao / Lincoln.

West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval (October 31) M -> The city of West Hollywood’s massive block-party style Halloween spectacle comes to a one-mile stretch of Santa Monica Blvd between Doheny Dr and La Cienega Blvd. Expect DJ sets, food trucks and thousands of attendees dressed in their costumed best. Free to attend. Runs 6 to 11 p.m. More info here. Go Metro: Take the 4 Line along Santa Monica Blvd.

DTLA Halloween Festival for Kids (October 31) M -> The Downtown Center Business Improvement District is hosting their 17th annual Halloween fest at Grand Hope Park. Guests can expect a trick-or-treat trail, crafting station, photo ops, and a kid-friendly magic show The event runs 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 pre-sale, or $13 at the door. Go Metro: Take A, B, D, E or J Lines to 7th Street Metro Center OR take lines 66/81/707 to 9th/Grand.
