Make Metro Part of Your Weekend
CicLAvia Heart of LA -> CicLAvia – Heart of LA brings the city’s biggest open streets event to Downtown Los Angeles this Sunday for a route that connects Boyle Heights, Chinatown, Downtown, Echo Park, and Little Tokyo, including a stretch that runs over the Sixth Street Bridge. Free to attend as always. Runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Go Metro via multiple Metro stations, including the A Line to Chinatown Station, the E to Mariachi Plaza, the A or E to Historic Broadway Station, or the A, B or D to Union Station. And yes, you can bring your bike on the Metro!

Black Lagoon Bar at The Normandie -> Starting this Thursday, the touring, immersive Halloween pop-up bar Black Lagoon finds a new L..A. home this Halloween season at The Normandie Club in Koreatown. Boo-ze Bites & Frights – M > For four nights this October, Street Food Cinema transforms Heritage Square Museum into a spooky playground featuring tours of the historic homes, adult trick-or-treating, food trucks, pop-up bar, and a double-feature of scary flicks for each evening. The series kicks off this Friday with a double-feature of Paranormal Activity and The Ring. Then on Saturday, catch From Dusk Til Dawn and The Faculty. Manhattan Beach Food & Wine -> This Friday and Saturday, a two-night food fest in Manhattan Beach brings together an all-star lineup of 50+ food and beverage contributors for the Manhattan Beach Food & Wine. Urban Death at Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre -> Zombie Joe’s annual tradition of Urban Death is back with a brand new series of terrifying vignettes, bookended by walks through a creepy maze. Jazz Night at LACMA – FA > The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Friday Night Jazz continues at Smidt Welcome Plaza this Friday with . This week, catch a performance from the Angel City Jazz Festival with Otmaro Ruiz. Remember that LACMA is free to visit for L.A. MASQ! – > Continuing this Friday to Sunday, MASQ! transforms Mountain View Mausoleum into a Venice Carnevale on the evening of a masked ball where a vengeful phantom appears, seeking justice. Presented by the Downtown Repertory Theater Company, known for sold out experience Fangs! and Witch!, this years production MASQ! will include unique individual experiences as you meet the people of La Serenissima and traverse a world of haunted mansions and an abandoned church. Broadway Night Lights – M FA TP > With 75,000 attendees expected, this Saturday’s Broadway Night Lights promises the biggest public event of the weekend with a five-block street festival in Downtown Los Angeles offering three stages of live music alongside public art, a Ferris wheel, kids zone, Lucha Libre matches, a classic car show, and more. Enchanted Halloween at Discovery Cube L.A. – > On three Saturdays this October, Discovery Cube L.A. offers an evening of science, magic, and family fun with a festive Halloween event featuring trick-or-treating stations, pumpkin catapults, a magic show, food trucks, and an LED robot dance party. DTLB Art + Design Walk – M FA > The DTLB Art + Design Walk’s fifth installment pops up this Saturday spread over 40+ locations in and around the Downtown Long Beach area. Creative spaces and local businesses will host special vendors, group art shows, live painting, DJ-spun tunes and other activations through the evening. The event runs near stops along the Metro A Line, and there is also a shuttle that will transport visitors between five key stops throughout the event’s footprint. It all runs from 4 to 9 p.m., and is free to attend. More info here.
Totally Valley Oktoberfest -> On Saturday, My Valley Pass is transforming the historic Airtel Plaza Hotel into the town of Munich but with “A Valley Twist”. Enjoy Bavarian music, dancing, craft beer, food and appearances from Radio DJ’s from the 80’s and 90’s. Tickets cost $25 per person. Party runs from 6 to 11 p.m. 21+ only. More info here.
Indigenous Peoples’ Day at The Getty – FA > The Getty celebrates Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Saturday with a day-long set of special activations, including hands-on workshops, music from Wildhorse Native American Association, poetry readings, and indigenous dance performances. Halloween Hootenanny Craft Beer Festival -> The fourth annual Halloween Hootenanny Craft Beer Festival takes place at the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach this Saturday. Emergence: Art from Life Opening Celebration at JACCC – M FA > The Getty PST ART exhibition Emergence: Art from Life presented by Fathomers opens at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center this weekend with back-to-back days of special free events. On Saturday, the evening affair includes free event includes gallery viewing from 6 to 9 p.m., drinks and refreshments catered by the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, plus a soundscape provided by Jeremiah Chiu of dublab. Additionally, the AfroRithm Futures Group will perform a choreographed ritual dance. Heavy Manners Comics Fair – FA TP > Indie book/zine library Heavy Manners is hosting a two-day comic book fair this Saturday and Sunday at their Echo Park location. The Wende Museum Presents Counter/Surveillance: Control, Privacy, Agency – FA TP > On Sunday, the Wende Museum opens their latest exhibition, offeing a look at Cold War-era surveillance practices through historical artifacts and artworks from the museum and other collections. Highlights from Counter/Surveillance: Control, Privacy, Agency include facial recognition training materials used by East German border guards in the 1970s and 1980s, along with works from artists who creatively responded to authoritarian control. Bee Week at The Hammer – FA TP > As part of their PST ART: Art & Science Collide exhibition Breath(e): Toward Climate and Social Justice, The Hammer is hosting a Bee Week from October 13-20. The fun kicks off this Sunday with bee-focused, hands-on workshop led by conservation photographer Krystle Hickman, beginning at 3:30 p.m. Earlier in the day you can also a catch a Family Flicks screening of the insect documentary Microcosmos, which screens at The Billy Wilder Theater at 11 a.m. Entry to the museum along with access to the special programming is all free. Cosmic Art Night: Of Sea and Sky at Mt. Wilson – > This Sunday, catch a unique night time experience at Mount Wilson Observatory will allow guests access to the 100-inch telescope, along with artist talks and a tour of the exhibition Of Sea and Sky. The two-person exhibition examines human-to-nature relationships by artists Rebeca Méndez and Stephen Nowlin, and as part of the experience Guests can view an immersive video work by Méndez projected within the dome and large-scale print works by Nowlin displayed along the dome floor encircling the massive telescope. Wicked Witches Afternoon Tea -> Starting Saturday, October 12, The London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills will put a seasonal spin on its Afternoon Tea service with a Wicked Witches Afternoon Tea. Served on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., the experience features a selection of teas from the Rare Tea Company, along with classic tea sandwiches, scones, and an assortment of house-made pastries. Treats like The Good Witch Meringue Tart and Flying Monkey Frozen Soufflé add a whimsical touch to the menu, perfect for up to four guests. Bell’s at Caldo Verde Downtown -> On Wednesday, October 16, Chef Daisy Ryan of the Michelin-starred Bell’s in Los Alamos will join forces with James Beard Award-winning chef Suzanne Goin for a special evening at Caldo Verde in Downtown LA. The five-course tasting menu will feature their interpretations of standout recipes from three cookbooks that shaped Chef Daisy’s culinary journey: My Mexico by Diana Kennedy, The River Cafe Cookbook by Ruth Rogers and Rose Gray, and Bistro Cooking by Patricia Wells.
