A Month-Long Public Art Exhibition is Taking Over Billboards Across Los Angeles

Posted by

The mission of local nonprofit The Billboard Creative is simple: to turn unused and remnant billboards into amazing public art.

In 2014 The Billboard Creative placed 15 contemporary artists’ works on billboards across Los Angeles. This December they’re more than doubling that amount with a a slated 33 works to displayed at major intersections throughout the city, including Sunset and Vine; Beverly and Laurel, and Hollywood and Western.

The first billboard display will go up on December 1 (that’s today!) with plans to have all the rest installed by December 7. The works will be up for one month only.

Featured artists for this year’s selection include Ed Ruscha, Jack Pierson, Andrew Bush, Shane Guffogg, Kim McCarty, and Panos Tsagaris.

All works were curated by artist Mona Kuhn, who says via the official website that it’s her mission for this year’s installations to “stop traffic with art.”

Let’s just hope if she literally achieves that objective, it’s done without causing any accidents!
