Posted by In case you haven’t heard, the Sixth Street Bridge demolition process begins this Friday night, and the 101 freeway will be shutting down in the nearby area for close to two full days as a result.
To help get word about the closure Mayor Eric Garcetti recorded a #101SlowJam with some band students from Roosevelt High School to remind folks about the weekend-long detour of the freeway.

Regardless of thoughts on mayoral policies, I always think it’s nice when a public official is willing to put themselves out there at the risk of mockery to raise awareness and/or help spread useful information.
In this regard, the video pretty much speaks for itself…
Total time for the closure will be 40 hours, starting at 10:00pm this evening and continuing through 3:00pm Sunday (just in time for the Super Bowl!).
The closed portions will encompass the 101 Freeway east of downtown, ranging from the divide of the 10 and 101 freeway to where the 5, 10 and 101 Freeways intersect.

As the mayor points out, it’s best to avoid the area if possible, but if you absolutely need to to somewhere nearby there will signs posted with detour instructions, and of course you could always take Metro.
