A ‘Pup-Up’ event will be taking place downtown this week at 838 S. Los Angeles St. daily during January 22-25 from 10am to 7pm. A food truck will be serving Grounds & Hounds Coffee and beverage from 10am to 1:30pm daily during the event.
For $20 a pop you can reserve spot and a one cup of coffee, or you can opt to chance it and pay $15 at the door, though seating is first come first serve and the $15 entry does not provide you a cup of java.
Patrons who buy-in will hang and and socialize with dogs from the Wags and Walks shelter, take photos with dogs via the Pup-Up’s photo station and maybe even adopt one of the furry friends if they really hit it off!
The event is the brainchild of Sarah Wolfgang, who is in the process of trying to open L.A.’s first dog cafe, which would a new kind of adoption center for dogs (and we have a lot of them in Los Angeles) in need of a forever home.
Not only would visitors be able to interact with the prospective adoptees, but the pooches would receive training and rehabilitation that will help prepare them for the transition of (hopefully) finding a new loving family to call their own.
So far Sarah’s indiegogo for the dog cafe has received about 10,000 of the $200,000 goal but she’s hoping the Pup-Up will generate more interest. She said she’s already talked to the L.A. Health Department, who told her the cafe would be legal as long as the cafe zone (where drinks would be served) and the dog zone were separated.
