24 Awesome Things To Do In L.A. This Weekend [2-27-15 to 3-1-15]

Los Angeles provides no limit of things to do, some awesome and some not so awesome. Since time is precious in this fast paced city, we decided to curate a list of things to do in Los Angeles every weekend that’ll help you decide how you want to spend your limited supply of attention (not to mention dollars!).

This weekend includes a free sword swallowing exhibition, a yoga dance party, a Bill Murray inspired art show, more sample sales and celebrity moderated discussions with cast members from some of your favorite T.V. shows. Grab some friends or go at it alone, but most importantly have fun and enjoy yourself!

1. The Giving Tree

This play inspired by Shel Silverstein’s classic story is the perfect evening spent with your kids. Playing at the Los Angeles Children’s Theater the story follows a boy from young age to old. Get more information and discounted tickets to The Giving Tree via Goldstar.

2. California Market Center Showroom Sample Sale Event

Open to the public once a month the California Market Center hosts a showroom sample sale event where 13 floors of participating showrooms open their doors from 9am-3pm to savvy patrons.

3. Laugh Your Ass Off At The Hit Comedy Mash Up: Pulp Fiction Meets Shakespeare 

Set in Elizabethan England a pair of hit men go on an adventure…very much like a certain movie that made Quentin Tarantino pretty damn famous. This much anticipate revival has brought the original cast members back and will run for a limited time. Get half price tickets to the event via Goldstar.

4. CouchTrippin’ 2015 At Mack Sennet Studio

Party with King Tuff, enjoy beer, live art and musical acts all for a good cause. The event is free to get on the guest list so sign up now before the event fills up! Proceeds from sales at the event go to the O+ Festival, which is dedicated to the exchange of health and wellness services for works of art and musical performances.

6. The Ambassador, A Stage Show That Captures L.A.’s Essence 

Approacehed by the Brooklyn Academy of Music UCLA’s Center for the Arts of Performance Gabriel Kahane was commissioned to create something very special. The result is a complete staged, pop-folk song show that tries to capture the essence of Los Angles through the inspiration of 14 pieces of L.A. architecture. The show makes its debut in Los Angeles for only two nights.

7. Quotes, Lines & Lyrics Artist Reception

Do you like movie quotes? Musical lyrics? How about an entire art exhibition based on work inspired on the greatest quotes and lyrics from movies, literature and pop-culture. The exhibition kicks off with an opening reception this Friday at 7pm if you’re keen on it.

8. LACMA Double Feature Meet Me In St. Louis and Westside Story

Like classic movies? LACMA is having a double feature in their Bing theater of sing a long worthy movies Meet Me In St. Louis and Westside Story! This weekends event is part of an ongoing collaboration with The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

9. World Sword Swallower’s Day

Come one come all to see the death-defying sword performers on World Sword Swallower’s Day happening at Ripley’s Believe It or Not on Hollywood Boulevard! Among the Sword swallowers will be International Reality TV Competition Star, Alex Magala who will be attempting a back flip AFTER swallowing a sword and leaving it in place. There will also be all kinds of Freak show/Side show types of performances including Fire Breathers/Eaters, Strongman Stunts, The Human Block Head and more.

16. Grow a Green Thumb at Waterwise Gardening

The Armstrong Garden Center is having a free educational event for folks looking to create their perfect garden while saving water at the same time. The class will be instructed by a nursery professional who will offer timely gardening advice and hands-on demonstrations.

17. The Bill Murray Party & Art Show Spectacle

Come on who wouldn’t want to spend the weekend celebrating Bill Murray? This party is everything Bill Murray and those who have art works featuring Bill Murray (I guess this is a thing) are encouraged to show it off! This is the first time the Murray party has come to Los Angeles so it should be interesting. Starts this Saturday at 730pm at the Syrup Loft.

18. Improv Comedy for Kids by Teens 

Like improv? We bet your kids might like it too! Now in it’s 11th award winning year Comedy for Kids, by Teens stars LA Connection class members. These teens have been trained to entertain kids with games and sketches aimed for youngsters but that doesn’t mean you wont be laughing as well!

19. See The Girls, Modern Family, Scandal and American Horror Story Cast At PaleyFest 2015

Yes they are all under one roof for the rest of the moneh. See cast members of your favorite shows and hear them discuss their experiences. Director Judd Apatow will kick off PaleyFest moderating for Girls on Sunday. The rest of the month has executive producer Steve Levitan moderating for Modern Family. Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel will moderate for Scandal. Tim Stack of Entertainment Weekly will be moderating for American Horror Story.

20. Alice in Wonderland: An Interactive Family Musical

CAC Studios in Santa Monica invites you to go down the rabbit hole with our favorite adventure seeking Alice. This interactive experience will have you signing and dancing along. 21. Old Pasadena Happy Hour Week Begins! 

Sunday through March 14th participating Pasadena restaurants, bars and lounges will have extended food and drink promotions, special flights, tastings, food pairings and even organized crawls! 22. Provocations: The Architecture and Design of Heatherwick Studio

The Hammer is now exhibiting British designer Thomas Heatherwick’s inventive design concepts ranging from installations, to fashion to architecture. Admission to Provocation’s is free.

23. Mudbloods

A documentary that follows the real life journey of the UCLA quidditch team (yes, that game that was invented in Harry Potter). Starts 3pm this Sunday on the USC campus at the Norris Cinema Theatre.
