Every week in Los Angeles there are tons of great things to do (even before the weekend gets started) that we think you ought to have on your radar. With that in mind, we put together a list every Monday morning to keep you in the know about what’s happening in the city you love (or maybe just like).

Monday January 29th, 2018
1. Pirates, Innovation and Rum! will offer guests a close-up look at Pirates of Penzanceat, now playing at the Pasadena Playhouse. FREE
2. Join Boomtown Brewery for Monday Movie Nights, a new monthly movie screening in their private event space set up with comfy couches, craft beers, popcorn and an option to order from Purgatory Pizza. This week they will screen The Water Boy. FREE
3. Calling all comedians and aspiring funny people. Meltdown Comics will host a free Nerdist Open Mic night where new comics and known comics will try out their new material each for three minutes. Do you have what it takes?
4. There are two free yoga classes on Monday. One at the Edendale Branch Library and a second at the Studio City Branch Library of the Los Angeles Public Library. FREE
5. Hanging Out with Paul Scheer returns to Largo for a funny round table show where each guest bring in something they think is cool and the discussion takes off from there. This month Maria Bamford (Lady Dynamite), Nicole Byer (Loosely Exactly Nicole) and Chaos Chaos (Rick and Morty) will join this “adult version of show and tell.”

6. Join Los Angeles magazine at their headquarters for the 5th annual Best New Restaurants Celebration, where they’ll shine a spotlight on some of their favorite local restaurants, chefs, and culinary masters.
7. Come hang with Doug Benson for Doug Loves Movies a live podcast with special guests about movies happening at UCB Franklin.
8. Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance transforms the Pasadena Playhouse into a playground mixing actors and audience as reimagined by the Chicago theatre hooligans The Hypocrites now playing through February 25. Wednesday January 31st, 2018
9. There’s a total lunar eclipse and Griffith Observatory is hosting a public viewing event. This is a blood moon supermoon and will be fully visible in Los Angeles from 3:45 to 7:00 a.m. Observatory employees and local volunteers will staff telescopes and binoculars to help visitors enjoy superior viewing of the moon during eclipse time. According to timeanddate.com, the maximum eclipse will occur at approximately 5:29 a.m. FREE
10. The Slurring Bee makes its way to The Virgil this Wednesday for a bar spelling bee with a money prize, bee-themed prizes and guaranteed slurring if you choose to participate.
11. In celebration of the Metro Red Line’s 25th birthday this year, they’ve partnered with filmmaker Hervé Cohen to present “Life Underground,” an immersive art media installation and interactive web documentary on view at Los Angeles Union Station from January 30 to February 5. FREE
12. The Secret Society of The Sisterhood at the Masonic Lodge in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery will feature Busy Phillipps, Mara Wilson, Marianna Jean-Baptiste, Jade Chang, Our Lady J and Randa Jarrar reading about the theme of the night, “Reclaiming My Time.”
13. Come to the Frogtown Brewery this Wednesday for Beer, Bingo, & Trivia Night.
Thursday February 1st, 2018
14. Chinatown After Dark going down at Far East Plaza happens every first Thursday of the month and is a testing ground for chefs in our city as well as a place to enjoy local music.
15. Head to Angel City Brewery for LOL’s and cold beer when Last Laugh Comedy celebrates their one year anniversary this Thursday.
16. Rockwell: Table & Stage presents the Unauthorized Musical Parody of Jurassic Park. Happening Thursday and Friday. (DISCOUNTED) via Goldstar
17. This Thursday you can catch a free showing of In this Corner of the World, a nominee the 45th Annie Awards for Best Independent Feature. The screening takes place James Bridges Theater on the campus of UCLA at 7 p.m. Movie to be followed by Q&A with the film’s director.
18. There’s a free mindful awareness meditation going on at the Hammer. Participants are welcome to stay for the entire 30-minute session or leave when they choose. FREE

Friday February 2nd, 2018
20. First Fridays return to the Natural History Museum this Friday. The event will explore L.A. inventiveness, capped with live music from two local legends: John Doe and Exene of the iconic band X.
21. GIRLSCHOOL is a three-day music and ideas festival that includes panels and workshops with female leaders, speakers, educators, activists, and more happening at The Bootleg Theater.
22. Greenbar Distillery will open up their facility for a tour of their organic distillery. The tour is one hour long and guests will have a chance to learn about the process of spirit making and taste some of the Greenbar portfolio.
23. Take an afternoon yoga class in beautiful Grand Park. The 45 minute workout is complimentary to the public every. After yoga, checkout the many food trucks lining the park and grab lunch al fresco style.
24. The Griffith Observatory hosts a monthly forum where some of the most amazing phenomena in the known universe are explained and discussed. It’s called All Space Considered and it takes place on the first Friday of every month. FREE
25. Since its the first Friday of the month check out all the cool events happening around town including block parties and art walks for First Fridays.
26. Take a Downtown Los Angeles foodie walking tour and savor what the bustling neighborhood has to offer. The tour is three hours long, participants will stop at six popular spots to eat and the tour guide will take folks through the history of DTLA. Happening Friday and Saturday.
