We looked ahead on our calendar to highlight some of the best events happening in April, 2015 around Los Angeles that you should probably have on your radar. Highlights include the return of the Dodgers, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, Brokechella, and back-to-back weekends at the Renaissance Faire.

1. The Dodgers are Back!
It’s time for Dodgers baseball! The boys in blue began their 2015 campaign with a three game series against the Padres starting April 6. Looking to the rest of April, you can grab some discount tickets for Friday April 17 versus the Rockies or (with a Fireworks show after!) or see the Dodgers first series of the season against the Giants on April 29.
2. The L.A. Times Festival of Books
Meet authors, hear live music and poetry, and catch original works of art and photography, and sample tons of delicious food over this three day event in April. Check out the L.A. Times event page for more info.
3. Brokechella
Can’t afford Coachella? How about 50 bands playing on four stages all at the budget price of $20. Brokehella goes down on Saturday April 18 if you want to mark your calendar early. Also… DEAL ALERT: Goldstar just launched a deal where you can purchase tix for just $10 (plus fees) so you can save even more. Tickets for this price are limited!

4. Explore the Renaissance Faire
The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire is the world’s oldest Renaissance fair. If you go you’ll see hundreds of costumed performers, jousting, knife throwing, improv troupes, hundreds of artisans selling hand-crafted goods, and not to mention an incredible selection of food vendors. The Faire will get underway on April 4 and run every Saturday/Sunday through May 17. Get more information and purchase tickets via the official website.
5. Beer Festivals!
On Saturday, April 4 there are actually two separate events happening that beer lovers should have on their radar.
First, the KROQ Beer Festival will be going down at Santa Anti Park from 1230pm – 530pm. The event will include lawn games, food trucks and 12oz. craft microbrews for $5.
And then of course there’s the 7th annual LA Beer Fest at the Los Angeles Center Studios, which will feature dozens of international and domestic beers. Two sessions will split the day, one from noon to 3pm, the other from 5pm to 8pm. Tickets only allow entry into one session of the other, so make sure you coordinate if you plan to go with friends!.
6. The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach
L.A. County’s largest street race is back for it’s 41st year! The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach will take place from April 17-19 with car showcases, a celebrity race, music, food, and of course the featured IndyCar event getting underway around 1:30pm on Sunday afternoon in downtown Long Beach. Grab tickets via Goldstar starting at just $17 for a Friday all-day pass and a three-day pass for $46.
7. The Modernist Art Show
Need an excuse to check out some modern art? The Los Angeles Modernism Show kicks off on April 24 with a slew of 20th century furniture, decorative and fine arts from across the US and Europe from more than 40 exhibitors. The opening night reception will include celebrity appearances (Julie Bowen and Lisa Kudrow), cocktails, dinner, music, and of course all proceeds will benefit the P.S. Arts nonprofit.
8. Kinfolks Soul Food Festival
Need a bit more soul in your life? On Saturday April 11 at Exposition Park check out this awesome fusion good food, good music, and good times at the Kinfolks Soul Food Festival. Gates open at 4pm, and there’s still time to get early-bird pricing of $35.
9. Matt and Kim FREE Show at Amoeba Music
Celebrating release day of their new album, New Glow, with a live mini-performance at Amoeba Hollywood! Fans who purchase New Glow get a limited-edition LIVE AT AMOEBA poster pre-signed by Matt and Kim!
10. 3rd Annual Vintage Marketplace
On Sunday, April 26, from 12pm-5pm, the Craft & Folk Art Museum will host its 3rd Annual Vintage Marketplace. The shopping event will featured textiles, clothing, jewelry, and a wide range of curiosities including community donations of hand-make art objects. Free to get in, and all proceeds directly benefit CAFAM’s exhibitions and programming.
BONUS #11: An Spooky Screening of The Exorcist at the Old L.A Zoo
On Friday April 17 at 6pm you can watch one of the scariest movies of all time in the abandoned surroundings of the Old Los Angele Zoo in Griffith Park, hosted by the headmaster of the Great Horror Campout.. By the the time the night ends and darkness has taken hold, yeah… you’ll be pretty freaked out. If that’ your thing, tickets for the show are $15 and if you purchase via Goldstar you get a package which includes reserved preferred seating, free parking and VIP admission that lets you cut the line.
