1. Spatial Reality: Artists Explore the Future of XR is a new experimental exhibit coming to sp[a]ce gallery at Ayzenberg in Pasadena where some 25 artists will exhibit work in the mediums of augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality. The exhibit opens this Friday, and then continues on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) from October 13 to 28. General admission tickets are free, with premium VIP experiences also available for purchase. FREE
2 .Nights of the Jack is a half mile trail filled with thousands of hand-carved and illuminated Jack O’Lanterns. Family friendly and located in Calabasas, the experience is filled with pumpkins carved into notable animated characters, movie stars, sports heroes, and many more. Happening Thursday through Sunday.
3. Unbound Productions’ site-specific Wicked Lit returns to the Mountain View Mausoleum, offering the perfect setting for all new tales of horror. This year, guests will enjoy two theatrical adaptations: Charles Dickens’ The Chimes: A Goblin Story, and Ernest Rhys’ Teig O’Kane and the Corpse. Guests will walk through the mausoleum as they follow both chilling tales. Happening Thursday through Sunday.
4. 18 Pasadena art and cultural organizations will offer free admission as part of ArtNight Pasadena. which features the Gamble House, Norton Simon, and USC Pacific Asia Museum, among others. Patrons can also take advantage of a free shuttle to stops around Pasadena. FREE
5. The Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor will transform into a seaport of the damned for the Halloween season with terrifying mazes and monsters at every turn. Happening Thursdays and through Sundays through Nov. 2. Check for discounted tickets before making your purchase. DISCOUNTED (via Goldstar)
6. From Oct. 12 to 14, Comedy Comedy Festival makes a return to Los Angeles, featuring a slew of comedy shows, standup comedians and written performances.
7. Critically acclaimed, avant-garde haunt Creep returns with ‘Awake.’ The walkthrough thrusts participants through a 75-minute series of horrific situations in a shockingly cinematic fashion. As a result, you are placed face-to-face with your worst fears, presenting an incredibly unique and intimate horror experience. Happening at ROW DTLA Thursday through Sunday.
8. The Second City will host the Los Angeles Diversity in Comedy Festival from October 11-14 celebrating performers of diverse backgrounds across race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity through performances, panels, and workshops.
9. Head to this year’s IndieCade to check out independent video games from around the world. Guests will be able to preview and play games, join in on forums and workshops. The signature event will”Night Gaming”, featuring gameplay underneath the night sky. Happening Oct. 11-13.
10. Pumpkin Nights feature over 3,000 carved pumpkins across eight pumpkin-themed lands accompanied with special pumpkin fire and magic shows, carvings, and plenty more. Happening October 12 through November 4.
11. Spooky season is in full effect at San Fernando Valley Halloween Drive-In Nights, where you can enjoy a classic horror film at the Lake Balboa Complex, where you will be able to park your vehicle, listen to the movie via your radio speakers, and take in a double feature to match the season. Hocus Pocus and Christine will be screened on Friday. The following day, October 13, see Beetlejuice and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
12. Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre in North Hollywood presents their annual Halloween iteration of Urban Death. Guests will wind through a short maze before entering a darkened theater where series of disturbing vignettes will be presented one after another. Happening Friday and Saturday. The Haunted Hayride returns September 29-October 31 at The Old Zoo in Griffith Park featuring four different Scare Zones, including trick or treating in a blood-curdling neighborhood and riding on the Scary-Go-Round and taking a ride on the main attraction the Haunted Hayride. 15. Face your fears during Universal Studios Hollywood Horror Nights happening Thursday through Saturdays till November 3. This year, the Stranger Things maze is the main attraction. 16. L.A.’s pop-up museum catalogue is growing larger this fall with The Pizza Experience – a multi-sensory pizza themed walkthrough. Explore giant installations, an oversized cheese pool, a pizza hall of fame, pizza theme-flavored snacks throughout, actual pizza slices and more. The Pizza Experience runs through January 29. 17. Alpine Village Oktoberfest celebrates 50 years! The fun kicks off this Friday with traditional Bavarian fun like Oom Pah Pah party bands, German fare, and delicious cold German beers. Oktoberfest runs Fridays and Saturdays September 7 through October 27.
18. Recent Spanish Cinema is a 4-day film series promoting Spanish films from Spain in the US. Several films will make their Los Angeles debut during the series. Running October 11-14 at the Egyptian Theatre.

22. Haunted Little Tokyo is presenting a series of Japanese horror films from some of the best horror visionaries this month. The series continues with a screening of Jinro Game at Union Center for the Arts.
23. The 19th Annual Reign of Terror is one of the largest haunted houses in Southern California, containing a total of eight unique themes spread among 105 separate rooms in over 23,000 square foot space.
24. The Fairplex transform into a German playground for Oktoberfest on October 12-13. Expect Bavarian music, chicken dancing, bratwurst and pretzels while knocking back some authentic German beers. DISCOUNTED (via Goldstar)
25. Get spooked during Paramount Pictures After Dark Tour: Tales From The Other Side where you’ll hear scandals of yesteryear and the lost souls who haunt the studio lot by moonlight. 27. Los Angeles County Museum of Art hosts free jazz performances on Fridays through November. Concerts take place at the main entrance. FREE
28. HorrorWorld is a collection of three separate haunts in one location presented by horror FX company Bone Yard Effects. Mazes include Into the Black, The Psycho Sanitarium, and The Fleshyard.
29. Rooftop Cinema Club returns to the rooftops of LEVEL in DTLA and NeueHouse in Hollywood with multiple screenings this week that include As Good As It Gets, The Neverending Story and more.
30. Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia has transformed into Fright Fest, offering six mazes, multiple scare zones, and the chance to ride some of your favorite coasters—including Twisted Colossus and Full Throttle—in the dark. Happening Friday through Sunday.

31. The Fall Brewery Artwalk (October 13-14) includes art displays spanning video, painting, performance, ceramics, interior, fashion, multi-media and more. There will be over 100 participating resident artists for guests to discover and interact with. FREE
32. Check out all the art, activity and culture that Pasadena has to offer during the Pasadena ARTwalk featuring art shows, restaurant deals and much more. FREE
33. Zona Rosa Caffe’s 24th Annual Dia de los Muertos celebration put on in partnership with the Pasadena Playhouse, will offer a plethora of activities and offerings including sugar skull tastings, face painting, artwork from a slew of artists, music, dance, performances, silent disco and more. 34. Now in its third year, David Lynch’s Festival of Disruption returns to The Theatre at Ace Hotel with two days of programming — including film screenings, music, art exhibitions and more — curated and overseen by Lynch himself. It all goes down on October 13-14.
35. Enjoy this year’s Fall Festival at The Original Farmers Market (October 13-14), including a petting zoo, pie-eating contests, live music, and plenty more.

39. Head to the inaugural Secret Project Festival (October 13-14), which promises a fresh and exciting outdoor celebration of DTLA’s creative culture through food, music and art. 40. Adidas presents You Had To Be There at Los Globos, a phone-free party, where upon entry you must put your cellular device in a locked pouch. For just one night, enjoy the party environment curated just for this event and stay off your phones and social media! Admission is free.
41. Drunken Devil presents Bacchanalia a horror-centric bash that transports guests to court during the roman rule of Caligula. There will be an open bar, actors unfolding a dark theatrical narrative, burlesque and much more.
42. On October 13 and 21, take the family to Kidspace Children’s Museum in Pasadena for Haunted Arroyo. A museum after hours party, the evening will boasts a wide range of activities including potion making, glow-in-the-dark painting, a slime station, lantern crafting a Monster Mash dance party and more.
43. Stop by Hollywood Forever Cemetery and join the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles during a walking tour back into time to find out about the many famous Hollywood legends who rest in peace at this iconic cemetery.
44. At the 10th Annual Los Angeles Printers Fair (October 13-14) celebrate the paper arts with handmade paper, cards, posters, opportunity for personal, custom prints and more with featured artist Chris Fritton.
45. Emo Nite Day boasts a huge setlist of live performances from the likes of Dashboard Confessional, All Time Low, 3OH!3 and much more, including DJ sets from Travis Barker (of Blink 182) and Gnash happening at The Shrine Expo.
46. Frogtown’s artist-run space Tin Flats will host Endless Song Exhibition featuring performances by Rafaela Lopez, and music by Yann Novak accompanying artists Rebecca Bruno and Rafaela Lopez work. Presented by The French Los Angeles Exchange, this project presents films, performances and exhibitions from artists in the program. FREE
47. Festival M.A.R.S will highlight immersive performance making use of musical compositions, virtual reality, audio-reactive visuals that surround both performers and audience, and much more.
48. Head to the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens for Boo at the Zoo on any Saturday or Sunday during the month of October for a large assortment of seasonal activities for the whole family. Featuring live, expert pumpkin carvings, Halloween games, a mini pumpkin patch and plenty more.

Stop by Grand Central Market October 13-14 for the DTLA Oyster Festival and enjoy all things oyster. Put on in part by the only master Ecailler in L.A., Christophe Happillion of The Oyster Gourmet, the event hosts top oyster farmers from North America for a weekend of oyster education, French wines, a film screening of “The Oyster Farmer” and all the oysters Angelenos can eat. Admission is free, the movie screening is also free and food is for purchase. Farmers will be shucking from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Market’s Hill Street platform. Additionally GCM vendors will also be offering oyster-centric dishes throughout the day. Happy slurping!
