A List of Fundraisers and Wildfire Relief Events Coming Up in Los Angeles

It’s been inspiring to witness Los Angeles respond in the face of wildfires that have brought unfathomable devastation to communities like the Pacific Palisades and Altadena. Seeing the outpouring of support, the flood of volunteers and the financial generosity at work in our community, we could not be more proud of the residents of our city and county. That said, in the coming weeks we expect efforts will naturally scale back. You can’t run at the red line of donations and volunteerism indefinitely.

It goes without saying that we would do well to take to heart lessons learned from what we’re experiencing. To rethink the relationship between our homes and our environment, our commerce and our climate. To make sure we’re always prepared. To strengthen connections between neighbors, reevaluate the walls that divide us, and make it a priority to always look out for one another. Through it all, we hope that resources continue amassing to aid victims of the blazes in getting back on their feet and rebuilding their lives. The road toward “normalcy” will be long and tricky. Hopefully it won’t just be a reversion to what once was, but a progression to something better.

However long it takes, part of the bridge to get there will be community events and fundraisers in support of wildfire relief. We will look for ways to gather with friends and patronize local businesses while still doing some good. To that end, we’ve curated a selection of such happenings coming up over the next few weeks. It’s not an exhaustive list, but it offers yet more examples of how the area is coming together. Whatever happens moving forward, let’s not lose that spirit! Now on to the list…

*NOTE: Depending on proximity to the two big fires (which are still smoldering), some folks are rightfully concerned about the air quality and potentially toxic particulate spread as we decide to go out and about. We liked to point to you towards the L.A. Times’ latest reporting on that matter, which has a good overview on where we are now with evaluating the region’s air toxicity. The article also provides links to a bunch of helpful resources including how best to assess air quality, links to public alerts, and places to get N95 masks. The latest L.A. County Public Health Fire Safety and Health Information can be found here.
