Nothing beats getting your produce from a farmers market. You’ll feel a sense of community by buying local and supporting hard working growers. Plus, there’s peace of mind in taking ownership of what you put in your body.

With that said, below I’ve compiled a comprehensive index of farmers markets in the Los Angeles County, in hopes that every Angeleno will make it a point to shop for fresh fruits and veggies, directly from the folks that harvest them.

To start–and because there are literally dozens of options–I thought it might be useful to preface the listing with a few of my favorite farmers markets. That is to say, the locations I frequent that I think deserve a special call-out. In the section after, I’ve created a master list of farmers markets in the county organized by the day of week (starting with Monday), and it includes a link to the most up to date info and current hours, as of date of publication of this article.

If you’re keen on it, check out the faves below, or skip down to the index to see what farmers markets are happening today.

My Favorite L.A. Farmers Markets

1. Downtown Santa Monica Farmers Market: For over three decades The Santa Monica Farmers’ Market has been an essential part of some of the top restaurants in Los Angeles. Here you find the most diverse grower-only Certified Farmers Markets in the state. Highly seasonal and often unique, the fruits and vegetables here are the best I’ve seen in the city. It’s also one of the largest in the city and makes for a true delight to walk around in. There are a few vendors that stand out and bring crowds to their tables each week. Murray Family Farms usually displays some visually bazaar produce like Pink Oyster Mushrooms, Sea Beans, Che Fruit and something called Buddha’s Hand that resembles a giant lemon with tentacles. They also offer really sweet cherries and other familiar fruits when in season. Fans of strawberries should beeline straight to Harry’s Berries before any other stand, you’ll be rewarded with perfect strawberries used by some of the best chefs in the city. The strawberries sell out every time and fast. Coming early for them is necessary. The market is held on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

2. Hollywood Farmers’ Market: Since 1991, the Hollywood Farmers’ Market situated right in the middle of Hollywood has been one of the most popular Sunday activities in tinsel town. A lively market atmosphere, mountains of technicolor produce and other goods line the streets. You can find fresh honey directly from the bee farmer, fish caught that very morning by the person at the booth, prepared foods, fresh eggs and much more here. Open on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

3. Burbank Certified Farmers Market is strictly a farmers driven market. These guys mean business. You won’t find arts and crafts here, or a petting zoo. Just fresh produce and knowledgable growers, some of which have been at the market since the start in the 80’s. Organic cheeses, honey, baked goods and pre-made foods can also be found at the market. The proceeds raised by the non-profit market are donated to the Providence St. Joseph Hospital Foundation in Burbank which reinvests the funds into the community through healthcare services. The market happens every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

4. The South Pasadena Farmers Market is an evening farmers market located in the historic South Pasadena area. Managed by the nonprofit South Pasadena Chamber of Commerce the public flock to this market every Thursday to grab a casual dinner from food vendors and groceries for the week. It’s also a kid friendly market place with cheerful holiday celebrations like trick or treating in October and a tree lighting ceremony in December. The market is open Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. on warmer seasons and closes one hour early during the winter.

5. The Mar Vista Certified Farmers Market has been around since 2006 and it’s become a happening spot to spend a Sunday morning. You can pick up fresh European baked goods, sweet seasonal fruits, and just about everything else that normally makes it on your grocery list. There are food vendors sprinkled along the market as well and a separate area for local artisans selling their goods like plants, jewelry and soaps. This market is also located across the street from the Japanese market Mitsuwa where I like to continue my shopping and make a stop by the popular food court for some ramen or tempura bowl. The Mar Vista Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. year-round.

6. The Montrose Farmers Market is held Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on a charming stretch of the shopping district in Montrose. Situated right up against the scenic mountain side this particular market feels worlds apart from the bustle and noise of city life. The market takes over a few blocks providing shoppers with an open street experience. Start on the east end where the fresh produce vendors are and make your way westward to the delicious food vendors.

Day by Day Schedule of Farmers Markets in Los Angeles County

(List updated April 21, 2023)

Keep in mind market dates that fall on holidays are likely to be closed or have different hours of operation, always double check before making your plans.

Also, in my research I noticed that sometimes official farmers market websites have out-of-date information (or they don’t have official websites), so in that case I’ve linked to relevant social media site such as Facebook or Yelp, where the info is most current.
