Located in the heart of the UCLA campus, The Fowler Museum offers exhibitions that highlight global diversity past and present, with a special eye towards the Americas, Africa, and Asia. A prime example is the recent Fire Kinship: Southern California Native Ecology, which offers a fascinating examination of indigenous practices of land management and ritual through fire, and how these practices apply (now more than ever) to the way Southern Californians navigate contemporary ecological conditions. In addition to the art, the museum also is a venue for lectures on cultural topics, art workshops, family programs, and musical performances.

Among these special activations, the evening concert series Fowler Out Loud is among the most dynamic. Here you’ll find UCLA students from various disciplines performing in the museum courtyard after hours, whether it’s singer songwriters, Taiko drumming groups, mariachi ensembles, or dance troupes. Each show runs roughly two hours and takes place (usually) on select Wednesdays at 6 p.m. throughout the school year. The Fowler Museum is open Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. if you plan to visit some of the exhibitions beforehand. Admission is always free, and no reservation is required.
