Even in the midst of a massive construction upgrade, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art remains one of the crown jewels of L.A.’s cultural treasure chest. The museum’s permanent collection houses more than 150,000 works of art from all around the world and from all periods of art history. Here you’ll find gems from European masters like Rembrandt, Rubens, and Van Gogh alongside contemporary exhibitions that pull from cultural traditions from around the globe and mediums ranging from ink and sculpture to digital installations. If nothing else, there’s always the ubiquitous selfie in front of Chris Burden’s Urban Light (pictured above).
As of the writing of this post, LACMA adult general admission stands at $23 for L.A. County residents or $28 for non-residents. That said, the museum offers numerous discounts and free admission time slots to take advantage of. Most notably (and in line with the title of this post), every second Tuesday of the month LACMA is free-for-all, with advanced reservation. If you can’t get there on a Tuesday, keep in mind that county residents with valid I.D. can also access the galleries for free after 3 p.m. on weekdays.
