Experience a Magical Puppet Fest at Bob Baker Day | Free To-Do #27

The Bob Baker Marionette Theater, founded in 1963 by Bob Baker and Alton Wood, is the oldest children’s theater company in Los Angeles and a true local treasure. In 2009, it was officially recognized as a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, and since 2019, it’s been spreading magic from its new home in Highland Park. Throughout the year, the theater brings puppetry to the people with ticketed performances as well as free shows at community events—but its biggest celebration is the one and only Bob Baker Day.

Now in its 11th year, Bob Baker Day transforms Los Angeles State Historic Park into a joyful, puppet-filled carnival, complete with roaming marionettes, live music, arts and crafts, games, shopping, food, drinks, and multiple puppet shows from the beloved Bob Baker Marionette Theater. You can even build your very own puppet to take home! The event is free to attend (RSVP required), with a suggested donation of $20 to help support the theater’s ongoing mission of sparking imagination and creativity.
