By any and all definitions, summer in Los Angeles has arrived. Spending time with friends and loved ones is a must. But spending money? Not if we can help it.

On that score, we’ve looked ahead to the next 5+ weeks of events in the Southland and there is a single, unifying word that ties together our countless hours of research: FREE. Free concerts. Free movie screenings. Free community festivals, art activations block parties, and cultural jams.

And it just so happens that the vast majority of happenings on our radar are accessible by Metro rail or bus service. That means you have the option (we love options) to waive parking costs and steer clear of traffic headaches by taking public transit to/from events.

June 22 M – Brewyard Beer Company hosts their 6th Annual Art Festival in Glendale. Go Metro: Take Line 94 to San Fernando / Western.

June 22 M – The Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation hosting their annual TOCApalooza at Torrance Cultural Arts Center.

June 22-23 M – The Pasadena Chalk Festival returns to The Paseo for a two day-long event featuring art and music featuring some 200 murals and over 500 artists  This event is free to attend. Go Metro: Take the A Line to Memorial Park station.

June 29-30 MPier 360 is a free two-day festival hosted at the Santa Monica Pier featuring ocean sports competitions, interactive games, a beer garden and plenty of live music on both days. Go Metro: Take the E Line to Downtown Santa Monica station.

June 30 – Polliwog Park Amphitheater hosts Concerts in the Park with a performance by pin up singing group Satin Dollz who will bring their unique WWII USO camp style show to the city of Manhattan Beach.
