Here’s a Cheatsheet of Free Museum Days in L.A. For August 2022

You may have seen that a few weeks ago we published a handy list of things to do with kids in Los Angeles for the summer. In the course of researching that post, I became ultra familiar with the ticketing policies for kids and toddlers at regional cultural institutions and botanic gardens. Turns out, there are quite a few offering gratis admission for the little ones.

I thought that this monthly cheatsheet series would be a good place to catalogue the research, so to start have a look at this bullet list below:

As I remind you every month, there are at least two dozen museums in and around Los Angeles that offer ongoing free admission for all-ages, all the time (The Getty, The Getty Villa, The Broad, Hammer Museum, etc…). We’ve compiled a list of those here, so be sure to check that out if you need more ideas.

Now, on to our regularly scheduled programming…

Free Museum Days in Los Angeles for August 2022

[AUGUST 4] The Huntington (free every first Thursday. Note that you have to reserve passes for the free day in advance, and it books up fast. Reservations for August 4 Free Day will be available on Thursday, July 28 at 9 a.m.)

[AUGUST 4] Martial Arts Museum (free every first Thursday of the month from 3 to 6 p.m.)

[AUGUST 4] Japanese American National Museum (free every Thursday)

[AUGUST 4] Skirball Cultural Center (free on Thursdays, noon to 5 p.m.)

[AUGUST 4USC Pacific Asian Museum (pay what you wish every Thursday)

[AUGUST 5] Kidspace Children’s Museum (free from 4 to 7 p.m. every first Friday. Note that this month is SOLD OUT, but if you want to get a jump on September, they’ll be releasing reservation slots two weeks in advance)

[AUGUST 7] Museum of Latin American Art (free every Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

[AUGUST 7] Craft and Folk Art Museum (pay what you can every Sunday)

[AUGUST 9] Los Angeles County Museum of Art (free on the second Tuesday of each month. Also free for L.A. County residents with valid I.D. after 3 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays all month long)
