If we’re talking about the most beautiful places in Los Angeles County, The Huntington has to be in the conversation, if not at the tippy top. Nestled in the affluent suburbs of San Marino just a stone’s throw from Pasadena, here you’ll find 130 acres of magnificent botanical gardens, a 16,000 square foot greenhouse/conservatory with over 50 interactive exhibits, a research library featuring literally millions of items spanning the past millennium, and even a Rose Garden Tea Room for when you’re feeling extra fancy. This is all to say that this is definitely one of the top to-dos in the region, and the price reflects that, with timed admission starting at $29 for adults.
But if you’re looking for a discount (and we know you are), read on. Every first Thursday of the month, you can access the gardens for free, assuming you do a little planning. Free day reservations go live on the last Thursday of every month at 9 a.m. Competition for these spots–especially during the summer tourist season–can be tough, which is why we’re writing this post two days before the next batch is available. Set your alarm, get you browser to the right page, and hit refresh as the clocks ticks toward nine. If you nab the tickets, you won’t regret it.
