Food Festival season is in full swing and this week shines a light on several local neighborhoods.

The Taste of Eastside is coming up this weekend while the Taste of Downtown Glendale takes off tomorrow (along with the Taste of The Valley which we mentioned last week).

Eastside eats this weekend

This weekend (April 30) enjoy the evolving food scene of such eastside neighborhoods as Silver Lake, Echo Park, Los Feliz, Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Atwater Village and more during Taste of the Eastside at Los Angeles River Center and Gardens. VIP Early Access ($75/ticket pre-sale; $85/ticket day of the event) includes, early admission, unlimited food tastes, three drink tickets, VIP demos, exclusive VIP gift bag, front row demo seating, and priority parking. General Admission Access includes unlimited food tastings and wine/beer/alcohol for purchase.

Dog Haus NOHO celebrate one year anniversary with free dogs

Dog Haus North Hollywood turns one on Friday, April 28! To celebrate, Dog Haus North Hollywood will offer guests any of their seven Haus Dog creations for free with the purchase of a $1 draught beer! That’s a nice pair! Happening all day.

Free VegFest L.A. returns!

The annual VegFest L.A. is back at Woodley Park in Encino on April 30, this all-day, all-vegan food festival will feature live entertainment, vegan food education and foodie inspiration. Highlights include cooking demos, oasis beer and wine garden, animal adoption, over 150 exhibitors and a vegspiration tent!

Caffe Luxxe grand opens with free coffee

Artisan coffee roaster Caffe Luxxe expands to Malibu this Wednesday, April 26 at 22333 Pacific Coast Highway from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The opening is in conjunction with the launch of their limited edition “Malibu Blend.”

The Taste of Downtown Glendale returns for with 30+ restaurants, wine and beer on tap, live music and family events to keep the kiddos busy. Starts this Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m.

Secret menu at WP24

WP24 by Wolfgang Puck has just launched a secret “24/7” menu to celebrate their 7-year anniversary in DTLA. The menu features popular items for $7 a pop, like Pork Belly Bao Buns, Tempura Rolls with spicy albacore, Steamed Chicken Dumplings, and Warm Doughnuts. Guests have to request the secret menu to access the deal.

Plan Check Kitchen + Bar x Linkin Park

Owner Terry Heller of Plan Check Kitchen + Bar joins forces with the band Linkin Park, to release a limited-run Plan Check x Linkin Park Meal Pack ($39) to promote the band’s new album, One More Light. The Meal Pack includes Ahi Tuna Tostada, a Korean bbq grilled cheese and more. Available at all four Plan Check locations from May 2-31 the meal also includes a limited edition Linkin Park t-shirt.

Best thing we ate this week….

Coastal Mexican restaurant Pez Cantina is situated in Downtown’s Bunker Hill near MOCA and the Broad Museum. The latest project of former Patina Executive Chef and co-founder of Milk Ice Cream Parlor, Bret Thompson the sea to land concept is inspired by the many flavors of Mexico which include Baja, Oaxaca, the Yucatan Peninsula and beyond. On the menu you will find ceviches, taquitos, tostadas, fresh seafood cocteles and plenty of grilled entrees.

During my visit I ordered a selection of fresh seafood starters and main courses. Entrees come in very large presentations. For example my Chimichurri grilled half chicken came with a heap of grilled romaine, asparagus, green onions, fingerling potatoes and a healthy serving of zesty cilantro-lime-mojo.

But my favorite was the Molcajete, a colossal lava bowl that comes with strips of NY steak, carnitas, shrimp, chorizo, Menonita cheese and grilled cactus dressed around a flavorful, still-simmering tomato stew. When the carnitas melts in your mouth upon the first bite… mmmmmmm.
