Dodgers Watch Parties at Ovation Hollywood – M > Have you been swept up in the wave of blue with the Dodgers. If you feel like taking in the action with a raucous crowd, viewing parties are scheduled for this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (if necessary) at the outdoor Center Courtyard at Ovation Hollywood. Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch – > Culver City’s favorite pumpkin village is back offering plenty of family fun, including photo ops in front of giant pumpkin installations, a straw maze, a super slide, petting zoo, giant rocking horses, and pumpkin decorating sessions. Toast for the Souls Día de los Muertos Event –> Hornitos Tequila and Mi Vida in Highland Park team up for a Toast for the Souls event this Tuesday through Thursday, between 6 and 7 p.m. Celebrate Día de los Muertos with a complimentary happy hour featuring Hornitos cocktails, honor loved ones at the Ofrenda installation, and shop a curated selection of creators and artisans dedicated to bringing this tradition to life. Drag Me to Hell at USC Fisher Museum – FA M TP > Drag Me to Hell brings Halloween spirit to the USC Fisher Museum this Tuesday with demonic drag performances inspired by queer pioneers in 1930s–60s Los Angeles who found refuge in science-fiction fandom and the occult underground. The lineup includes Specimen Scythe along with Dragula stars Vander Von Odd and HoSo Terra Toma, followed by a DIY costume contest for USC students hosted by international DJ and drag sensation Miss Toto, and dance party with DJ $1lver. Boney Island at the Natural History Museum – M > Continuing this Wednesday to Friday, catch the return of Boney Island at the The Nature Gardens of Natural History Museum Los Angeles. Expect an array of glowing installations, spooky skeletons, and shadow puppetry interlaced with artistic performances, and real fossils from the museum’s collection. Plus, this year the attraction is folding in local food trucks and vendors, along with bar service guests who are 21+. Boney Island runs on select days throughout the month of October. Treat Trail, Pics & a Flick at One Colorado – M FA > Old Pasadena’s One Colorado celebrates Halloween this Thursday with store-to-store trick-or-treating for costumed kids (first-come first-served) along with a family portrait station. Halloween Happy Hour at Broken Shaker –> This Halloween Thursday, Downtown LA’s rooftop gem, Broken Shaker at the Freehand Hotel, is hosting a Halloween Happy Hour from 7 p.m. until close. Dia de los Muertos with Dudamel -> This Friday to Sunday at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Gustavo Dudamel will team up with the Tambuco Percussion Ensemble and the Los Angeles Master Chorale to offer a tour-de-force of multilayered rhythms that draw ancient cultures and traditions into conversation with the modern world as a tribute to Día de Los Muertos. Ototo’s Turns into a Japanese 7-Eleven for Halloween –> This Halloween, Echo Park izakaya Ototo is taking inspiration from Japan’s beloved 7-Eleven with a unique, one-night pop-up. Expect reimagined convenience store classics like crustless egg salad sandwiches, onigiri, “Nana Chicki” karaage, “Not So Instant” Cup Noodles, and the cult-favorite Yakisoba Pan (yes, noodles stuffed into bread!). Costumes are welcome, and early arrival is encouraged, as this walk-in-only experience is sure to be a hit.
Warabimochi Kamakura’s U.S. Debut –> Beloved Japanese mochi shop Warabimochi Kamakura opens its first U.S. location on October 31, 2024, at The Shops at Santa Anita. While Angelenos may be familiar with the chewy mochi made from glutinous rice flour found at local spots like Fugetsu-Do, warabimochi is crafted from bracken starch which gives it a unique jelly-like texture. The Japanese confection is then coated in Kinako powder, a roasted soybean flour. The new Arcadia shop will serve a selection of matcha, coffee, and warabimochi drinks alongside its specialized mochi.
Blu Jam Café’s 18th Anniversary Recession Break-Fast –> In celebration of 18 years in LA, Blu Jam Café is bringing back simpler times with a special Recession Break-Fast menu featuring throwback items and prices from 2006. Starting October 29, enjoy a selection of egg dishes, breakfast tacos, wraps, and more at their original Melrose location for just $8.79. Available for dine-in only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., until November 27, 2024.
