Ice at Santa Monica Grand Opening Party -> Celebrate the grand opening of Ice at Santa Monica this Friday from 5 to 11 p.m., presented by Disney+. The event includes live DJ sets, on-ice performances by Olympic hopefuls Katie McBeath and Daniil Parkman, and remarks from local representatives. Democracy Sessions at MOCA –M FA TP > This Friday to Sunday, The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and orchestral collective Wild Up present Democracy Sessions, a free three-day arts event exploring democratic and cooperative practices amid a pivotal moment in U.S. political history. Following the 2024 Presidential election, Democracy Sessions invites the public to engage with themes of creativity, justice, and liberation through music and social gatherings. South Central Film Festival – FA > This Friday and Saturday, the third annual South Central Film Festival returns to Mercado La Paloma this November with back-to-back days showcasing emerging creatives voices from a diverse set of backgrounds and communities. This year’s fest includes three separart short film blocks over two nights, all spaced out by panel discussions, DJ sets, and capped by a live musical performance. Tickets are free with RVSP. Astra Lumina: An Enchanted Night Walk Amongst The Stars -> Beginning this Friday, The South Coast Botanic Garden again morphs into a multi-sensory celestial pathway where guests will walk amongst the stars thanks to brilliant lights, cosmic visions, and astral song. Land’s End Performance –> On Saturday, The L.A. Choral Lab, in collaboration with AltaSea and the Port of Los Angeles, presents Land’s End, a unique concert experience showcasing L.A.-based artists in one-of-a-kind venues. Held at Berth 60 in the Port of Los Angeles, this musical and sensory performance includes three pieces by local composers—including a world premiere—and marks the first choral event of its kind in this location. Self Care Yoga at CAAM -> Need a little refresh for the fall season? Bring your mat and head over to the California African American Museum’s Self Care Yoga program this Saturday morning. Inglewood Open Studios – M FA TP > The annual Inglewood Open Studios art walk returns this Saturday and Sunday offering a mix of tours and talks at galleries and artists studios in and around the city of Inglewood. Free Day at the GRAMMY Museum – M FA TP > On Saturday, you can get free admission at GRAMMY Museum as part of a day-long celebrate Latin Music and culture through a series of educational and community-based activations. . The celebration will open with the Mariachi Tierra Mia band, followed by a panel on diversity in Latin music, a salsa lesson on the Ray Charles Terrace, and a closing performance by Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band. Additionally, the first 300 attendees on site will receive a free taco lunch on the Ray Charles Terrace and parking vouchers (for the L.A. 4th Annual Making Memories Festival – M > November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, and for the fourth year in a row Alzheimer’s Los Angeles hosts a special benefit concert at LA State Historic Park to raise funds and awareness for the cause. This Saturday’s festival lineup features White Denim, Boogaloo Assassins, Jackie Mendez & The Steady 45’s, Circle The Earth and Monalisa. Spaghetti Festival at The Elysian -> This Saturday and Sunday, The Elysian Theater hosts two days of new plays and performances produced by emerging talent, all being presented for the first time, and all in the spirit of “let’s throw it against the wall and see what sticks!” Get tickets, more information and see the full lineup of shows here.
Pasadena Artazan Handcraft Market -> On Saturday and Sunday, Artazan comes to the Pasadena Convention Center for a two-day event exploring all things hand crafted. Over 200 exhibitors are participating from jewelry to woodwork, ceramics, clothing and food. Tickets cost $8. More info here.
Music With a Movie Camera – FA TP > Helix Collective’s 10-piece film-music ensemble comes to the Wende Museum this Sunday to perform original film soundtracks from the 1920s-80s via composers from the former Soviet Union, all backed by clips from the related films. Included are score selections from It’s a Wonderful Life, Man with a Movie Camera, The Gadfly, The Cranes are Flying, and The Snowstorm. 85-Cent Chili Dogs for Pink’s 85th Anniversary –> Iconic Hollywood stand Pink’s Hot Dogs is celebrating its 85th anniversary November 8–12 with five nights of festivities, special guests, and its “Chili Dogs for Charity” program to support L.A. charities. Starting Friday, November 8, Mayor Karen Bass will kick off the event, with George Lopez (Nov. 10), Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias (Nov. 11), Henry Winkler (Nov. 12), and a surprise guest (Nov. 9) joining nightly at 8:05 p.m. Each night, for 85 minutes starting at 8:05 p.m., Pink’s will serve its famous chili dogs for just 85 cents (limit 5 per customer), with all proceeds benefiting local charities. The Pink family has pledged to donate 100% of proceeds from these sales with a minimum donation of $5,000 per night.
