Every week in Los Angeles there are tons of great things to do (even before the weekend gets started) that we think you ought to have on your radar. With that in mind, we put together a list every Monday morning to keep you in the know about what’s happening in the city you love (or maybe just like).

This week, from Monday, May 9 to Friday, May 13, features a Lost episode of Huell Howser, Free Cone Day at Haagen Dazs, NPR’s Ask Me Another at The Ace,  an Old Time Social, a spooky movie screening at the Old LA Zoo in Griffith Park, a Joss Whedon Convention, and much more.

12. KPPC Presents Ask Me Another at The Ace Hotel Theatre

13. The May Mix-Off Bartending Competition

Hosted by the Mixing Room at the JW Marriott at L.A. LIVE, this three-week competition includes bartenders and mixologists from Los Angeles’ most notable bars, restaurants and lounges. Round one starts this Wednesday, admission is free and complimentary tastings will be available to guests.

Explore the food and drink scene through tasty samples during Belmont Shore’s Stroll and Savor event happening May 11-12.

15. Radio Picture Show

The wildly entertaining Radio Picture Show is back at The Virgil. RPS invites talented writers, actors and comedians to share true stories inspired by a song or picture of their choosing. Often this media is used in unexpected and hilarious ways.

16. Reflections on the Self: Selections from the Permanent Collection Opening Reception at CAAM

The exhibition illustrates natural to abstract portrayals of historical figures such Malcolm X, Angela Davis and Mary McLeod Bethune and also references black pride, past and present. The opening reception (5 p.m. -8 p.m.) is free and open to the public.

17. Lunchtime Yoga Retreat

Get your sun salutations on in the middle of Downtown in Grand Park! The free yoga class starts at 12:15 p.m. and runs to 1 p.m.

18. Los Angeles Old Time Social

Created to promote traditional, handmade music with fun events around the city, this three-day (May 12 – 14) event is back for its 11th year with happenings from Silver Lake to West Adams.

19. Sci-Fi Fest

The third annual Sci-Fest will take over the ACME Theatre for 15 days (May 5-19) of one-act science fiction plays featuring faces from fantasy and sci-fi franchises.

20. Take an Insider’s Tour Through East Hollywood’s Ethnic Neighborhoods

21. The Downtown Art Walk

The Downtown Art Walk has been an L.A. cultural phenomenon bringing in art enthusiasts and locals together every second Thursday of each month. 23. Callings Out of Context: Junglepussy + Dan Deacon

28. First Ever Whedonopolis: A Joss Whedon Convention

Joss Whedon is getting a very well deserved convention the inaugural event will take place May 13 – 15 in Van Nuys. Fans can expect some familiar faces from the Whedonverse to make appearances.

29. Piatigorsky International Cello Festival

The International Cello Festival (May 13 – 22) brings out some of the best master cellists from around the world onto various Los Angeles spaces to share their talents through orchestral concerts, chamber music performances, master classes, and other events.

Nothing beats catching a game beneath the stars especially with our beloved Dodgers . After the final out is called, the lights will go down and guests can actually go on to the field for a spectacular fireworks show. 36. Dance Phenomenon Lil Buck with Mihai Marica, Cellist at The Broad Stage

The Broad Stage in Santa Monica presents YouTube sensation Lil Buck for two performances on Friday May 13 and Saturday May 14. His Los Angeles stage debut will be accompanied by the music of the youngest and most accomplished classical cellists, Mihai Marica.
