Free Rides on Metro for Election Day – M FA > You might not have heard, but Tuesday is Election Day. If you are planning to vote same day (and remember even if you aren’t registered, you can still cast a provisional ballot) and you need a a ride, Los Angeles Metro has you covered with free rides on all Metro buses, trains, bikes and Metro Micro. Let’s get out there and vote!
Death Cafe at Heavy Manners – FA > If U.S. elections give you existential dread, maybe what you need is a mortality focused meet-up called. It’s called Death Cafe, and they’re hosting at Heavy Manners Library in Echo Park this Tuesday, with a stated goal to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their finite lives.” It’s more discussion than support group, so go in with expectations set. Might be a good fit if you previously checked out the Silent Book Club of Death (another We Like L.A. recomendation). Donuts and coffee also provided! The event is free, but donations are welcomed. New Exhibitions at Corey Helford – FA > Three fresh exhibitions went on view at Corey Helford Gallery this past Saturday, including A Change of Scenery, a solo show by Japanese artist Ryoko Kaneta, plus The Unusual Suspects: Curious Creatures and Iconic Characters, which highlights mini-solo exhibitions by six artists. Exhibitions remain on view through December 7. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Free to visit. More info here.

First Wednesday Lecture at The AoP -> Every first Wednesday evening of the month, the Aquarium of the Pacific hosts an evening guest lecture and cocktail reception at the Pacific Visions Theater. For November 7, the Aquarium hosts experts from the Long Beach Utilities Dept. and Los Angeles County Sanitation to discuss recycled water and its relevance to a sustainable future. A cocktail and social hour in the art gallery follows the talk. Admission is $5 advance online and $10 the day of the event at the door. More info here.
Hollywatts Posse Performance – M FA > This Wednesday at the Art + Practice Exhibition Space in Leimert Park, Hollywatts Posse (a Los Angeles’s experimental performing arts group from the 80s/90s) reunites for special multimedia performance centering Black history and struggle, co-presented with the California African American Museum. Free Film Screenings at The Hammer – FA > As part of Giant Robot’s 30th Anniversary film series, The Hammer is hosting a pair of screenings this week paired with director Q&As. On Thursday, catch the 2001 Japanese drama All About Lily Chou-Chou. Then on Friday, they’ll screen the anime classic Tekkonkinkreet (based on the manga by Taiyō Matsumoto) Both films begin at 7:30 p.m. Free to attend. More info here.
Democracy Sessions at MOCA – M FA TP > This Friday to Sunday, The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) and orchestral collective Wild Up present Democracy Sessions, a free three-day arts event exploring democratic and cooperative practices amid a pivotal moment in U.S. political history. Following the 2024 Presidential election, Democracy Sessions invites the public to engage with themes of creativity, justice, and liberation through music and social gatherings. The program takes place at WAREHOUSE at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, this event is part of Wonmi’s WAREHOUSE Programs. More info here.
South Central Film Festival – FA > The third annual South Central Film Festival returns to Mercado La Paloma this Friday to Saturday with back-to-back days showcasing emerging creatives voices from a diverse set of backgrounds and communities. This year’s fest includes three separate short film blocks over two nights, all spaced out by panel discussions, DJ sets, and capped by a live musical performance. Tickets are free with RVSP. Astra Lumina: An Enchanted Night Walk Amongst The Stars -> Starting this Friday, The South Coast Botanic Garden once again morphs into a multi-sensory celestial pathway where guests will walk amongst the stars thanks to brilliant lights, cosmic visions, and astral song. Ivy Station Night Market Fall Feast – M FA TP > Ivy Station’s monthly night market gets a fall makeover this Friday with dozens of local vendors alongside food trucks, craft beer, fall crafts, adoptable dogs, and DJ-spun tunes. Runs 5 to 10 p.m. and free to attend. More info here.
Read The Room Tarot & Comedy Show – M > At this recurring show at The Crow in Santa Monica, professional tarot reader Jovan Illa teams up with comedian Orion Levine to read and interpret the tarot cards of audience members.
