Dining & Drinking
(picks by Christina Champlin)

Los Angeles is a melting pot of culinary influences, and Linden, a Black-owned fine dining gem on Sunset Boulevard, embodies that spirit beautifully. Executive Chef Jonathan Harris, a Long Island native from a family of chefs, blends flavors from New York, the Caribbean, and Jewish traditions into a menu that feels both nostalgic and elevated. Start strong with the Herbed Duck Fat Fries, served piping hot with caviar and lemon aioli. The Sunset Salad layers roasted sweet potato, pear, goat cheese, and cornbread crumbles over a mountain of greens—fresh, hearty, and balanced. For mains, the Southern-style Fried Chicken, a tribute to Harris’ father, delivers a perfect crunch with juicy, tender meat, paired with velvety collard green purée. The Parkway is a standout—jerk-marinated duck leg and breast over creamy coconut pigeon pea risotto, bold in flavor and flawlessly executed. I didn’t get to try the much-hyped Wagyu Pie—a puff pastry filled with pulled wagyu oxtail and plantain chutney, inspired by Jamaica’s independence from the United Kingdom—but that just gives me a reason to come back. Portions are generous, the energy is electric, and even on a weekday, the place was packed. The bar? Standing room only. Pro tip: Book a reservation—this spot is worth the hype.
