Motown Mondays – FA > Every Monday, head to The Short Stop in Echo Park for a night of DJs spinning Motown classics, remixes, and covers that’ll get you moving. There’s no cover, and happy hour runs from 5 to 9 p.m., making it the perfect excuse to roll in early for a deal and stay for the grooves. More info here.
X-Change at JACCC – M FA > On Tuesday, the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center has an ongoing (and free) conversation series featuring profound thinkers riffing on contemporary issues, all hosted by interviewer Paul Holdengräber. This week’s event features a conversation with acclaimed author and global citizen Pico Iyer ,who will discuss his latest work Aflame: Learning from Silence. The discussion starts at 7 p.m. and is free to attend, but an RSVP is required. More info here.
Nexus Moda – FA > This Tuesday at California Market Center in DTLA, Nexus Moda brings an immersive day-long experience that weaves themes of sustainable fashion with cutting-edge technology. Free Rides on Metro + Metrolink for Earth Day -> Need a lift on Tuesday? To celebrate Earth Day, Metrolink, Los Angeles Metro and several other regional transit agencies will be offering fare free rides on their services. The Metro services include use of Metro Micro (with the app installed) as well as 30-minute rides from Metro Bike Share by selecting “1-Ride” and entering promo code 042225. Enjoy!
Dance Revolution in DTLB – M FA > Every Tuesday through May, the Downtown Long Beach Alliance is hosting free dance classes and bringing you a wide variety of dance styles and instructors. No experience needed—just show up and groove! Runs 6 to 8 p.m. More info here.
Lunchtime Concerts at Colburn – M FA > This Tuesday, a new lunchtime concert series pops up on the Colburn Plaza in DTLA featuring midday classical performances. The shows run from noon to 1 p.m. every Tuesday from April 15 through May 6. More info here.
Stand Up for Pets -> A night of dog-friendly stand-up comedy comes to Annenberg PetSpace this Wednesday. Caitlin Benson hosts a lineup of comedians headlined by Adam Ray, with bites from Vurger Guyz and beers from Three Weavers Brewery. And you can even check out adoptable pets before the show starts! The Getty Center Presents: Poetry in the Garden – FA > Live readings are back at The Getty Center’s Central Garden for this month as the annual Poetry in the Garden series returns with a new lineup of poets, spread over three dates in April. Artists will share original works inspired by the upcoming exhibition, What They Saw: Historical Photobooks by Women, 1843–1999. This Wednesday’s performance starts at 2 p.m. and features a reading from Camae Ayewa with V.C.R on violin. More info here.
PINK CLOUD at Beyond the Streets – FA > Now on view at BEYOND THE STREETS, PINK CLOUD presents the Los Angeles exhibition debut of San Francisco-based graffiti artist GREY (Jonas Melvin) with a mix of installations, paintings and sculptures. The group show also includes works from Alexis Ross, Alicia McCarthy, Angel Castro, Barry McGee, Cheryl Dunn, Dan Murphy, Dave Schubert, Elberto Muller, GKAE, Mark Cross, MERCH, Stephen ESPO Powers, Timothy Curtis, and Todd James. Green Screen Movie Series – M FA > To mark the 10th anniversary of City Nature Challenge, the Natural History Museum is hosting Green Screen, a free film series at NHM Commons Theater exploring pressing environmental issues from local and global perspectives. Arts Party: Transcend at The Hammer – FA TP > This Friday night, The Hammer’s annual Arts Party for college students returns. Students from all over Southern California are invited to stop by to enjoy live music, art-making workshops from Self-Help Graphics and LA Zine Fest, and after-hours access to the galleries. Angel City Review’s Ten Years of Poetry in L.A. – FA > On Friday, Oxy Arts hosts a night of poetry readings to celebrate the publication of Angel City Review’s new anthology, Angel City Review’s Ten Years of Poetry in L.A. . The evening will include readings from poets Rocio Carlos, Billy Burgos, Ramon Garcia , Mylo Lam, and Amy Raasch. In addition, every attendee will receive a free copy of the anthology. Kavahana’s Earth Day Drink Special -> Kavahana, L.A.’s first and only kava bar, is honoring Earth Day with a limited-time special that gives back. Swing by the Santa Monica spot on April 22 (and through the end of the month) for the “Clean Up the Beach Latte”—a vibrant mix of blue spirulina, coconut milk, and matcha, served with a shot of tingly kava nectar on the side. Each $10 drink supports Heal the Bay, a local nonprofit working to protect the coastline.
Monthly Wine Down with Osteria Mamma -> Larchmont favorite Osteria Mamma is turning 15 and celebrating with a new chef, a refreshed menu, and a monthly wine tasting series. Kicking off Thursday, April 24, guests can enjoy 3 to 4 seasonal wines paired with light bites, all guided by sommelier Filippo Cortivo. The tasting starts at 6:30 p.m. and costs $35 per person. It’ll return every last Thursday of the month and can be booked through Open Table.
Nobu Los Angeles’ Tanoshi Hour -> Nobu in West Hollywood debuts Tanoshi Hour, a new happy hour in the bar and lounge running Monday through Friday from 5:30 to 7 p.m., featuring an extensive food menu and signature cocktails. Drinks range from $6 draft beers to $16-$20 cocktails, including a Lychee & Elderflower Martini, plus regional wines by the glass and bottled sake ($16-$18). On the food side, expect a mix of hot and cold dishes, from Toro Tartare with Caviar to Black Cod Butter Lettuce, alongside classic nigiri and rolls priced between all priced between $8 and $30.
