Astronomy on TapM FA > Astronomy on Tap returns on Monday with a pair of scientific talks (helped along by trivia, live music, and beer) at Dog Haus Biergarten in Pasadena. For the July, catch a talk from  Caltech PhD Student Zhuyun Zhuang poses the question, Did the James Webb Space Telescope Break Our Understanding of the Early Universe? Plus recent Caltech graduate Richard Feder presents What Goes Up Must Come Down: Infrared Astronomy with Sounding Rockets. Event starts at 7:30 p.m. Free to attend as always. More info here.

Mozart Under the Stars -> The compositions of Mozart will fill the air of the Hollywood Bowl this Tuesday as Zubin Mehta conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic in this rousing, annual tradition. Tickets start as low as $17. Concert begins at 8 p.m. More info Zubin Mehta, conductor.

Moonlight Movies on the BeachFA > Long Beach’s signature beachside summer cinema series is back for 2024, continuing with screenings in July split between two locations. This week, catch The Sandlot on Tuesday at Granada Beach. Movies starts around sunset (8 to 8:30 p.m.). Free to attend, and parking is free after 6 p.m., though spots are limited. More info here.

Sketch Party at Benny BoyM FA > Sketch Party’s twice-monthly drawing/drinking meet-up comes to Benny Boy Brewing this Tuesday. They’ll hook you up with sketch paper, pens, pencils, and markers, then it’s up to you to create, mingle, hang out, and enjoy BB’s solid lineup of craft beers and ciders. All artistic levels welcome. Hannah Einbinder at The Lyric HyperionTP > On Wednesday, Hacks star Hannah Einbinder pops up at her old stand-up stomping grounds on stage at The Lyric Hyperion to workshop new material, along with a few comedy friends who will being doing the same. Tickets are $12.32. Show runs 9:30 to 11 p.m. More info here.

Shakespeare in the ParkFA > The Independent Shakespeare Co. is once again bringing a summer of the Bard to Griffith Park, but unlike in past years, the 2024 season will focus on a single production. From July 10 to September 1, catch Wednesday-through-Sunday performances of As You Like It at ISC’s familiar space near the Old Zoo. The main show starts at 7 p.m., and you can catch a pre-show, immersive prologue at 6 p.m. Free to attend, but donations heartily encouraged. More info here.

Hammer Summer Concert 2024FA TP > This Thursday, live music comes in The Hammer’s courtyard via performances by DJ Monalisa, this year’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert Winner The Philharmonik, and olea of Soulection. Happy hour starts at 6:30 p.m., music starts at 7:30 p.m., and the galleries will be open from 7 to 9 p.m. Free to attend. More info here.

Sunset Concerts at the Skirball FA > The Skirball Cultural Center’s annual Sunset Concert series continues this Thursday with a performance by French-Moroccan power quartet Bab L’ Bluz. All concerts include complimentary gallery access, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Free walk-up tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is available from $15-$20. Exploring Masculinity in the Queer Homie Latinx CommunityM FA > This Thursday the LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, hosts a inspiring conversation with diverse group of queer Latinx individuals exploring the experiences and challenges faced by queer brown folks in relation to masculinity and how it intersects with other aspects of identity. Sunset Music Series in Culver CityM FA > Culver City continues it’s summer-long series of outdoor concerts this Thursday with a performance by The Mariachi Divas, who are celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2024. Sloth Summer NightsFA TP > This Friday, the La Brea Tar Pits hosts a free evening activation celebrating the slow-moving giants of the ice age: The Sloths. Expect an up-close encounter with Sid the Sloth from Wildlife Learning Center, free access to the museum, on-site food trucks, an excavator tour of the fossil lab and current excavation site, pop-up educational presentations, and Slow Jams and Summer Anthems presented by Mike C. Dance DTLA at The Music CenterM FA > The Music Center’s Dance DTLA hosts an evening of Line Dance this Friday, with instructors will be on hand to teach guests easy-to-follow steps, allowing everyone to get into the groove right from the jump. Event runs from 7 to 11 p.m. Free as always to attend More info here.

Sunset Swim at Annenberg Community Beach House -> After a long (and hot) week, cool off with a Sunset Swim this Friday at the oceanside pool located on the historic former estate of actress Marion Davies. The adults-only session runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Registration is $10. More info here.

Movie Night at Ivy StationM FA > Ivy Station’s monthly night move night returns this Friday with a screening of The Sandlot. Free to attend as always. Expect complimentary popcorn plus a selection of movie candy for purchase from Motion Fli. Lawn seating opens at 7:15 p.m. The move starts at 8:15 p.m.. More info here.

KCON LA  – M > This Friday-Sunday, The traveling celebration of Korean music and culture comes to Crypto.com Arena and the L.A. Convention Center and the Gilbert Lindsey Plaza this July for a three-day weekend chock full of live performances, brands, celebrity meet-and-greets, and more. Tickets start at $150. Friday Night Wine Tastings at Barnsdall ParkM > After a five-year hiatus, Friday night wine tasting events are back at the Barnsdall Art Park West Lawn. A $45 ticket gets you a flight of wine curated by Silverlake Wine, plus access to a rotation of food trucks, all supported by tunes from local DJs and sweet sunset views of the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Park Observatory. Jazz at LACMA – FA > The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s annual Friday Night Jazz series is back for a season of free weekly concerts at Smidt Welcome Plaza through November. This week: a performance by Bruns & Baché. Remember that LACMA is free to visit for L.A. County Residents (with I.D.) on weekdays after 3 p.m. Seating is first come, first serve. Smoking Out The HUB -> Barbecue legend and James Beard Award winner Kevin Bludso is bringing the heat to his hometown of Compton with two epic food events this week. First up, on Friday, July 26, is a VIP dinner featuring a star-studded lineup of celebrity chefs and pitmasters, presented by Hennessy, Kingsford, and Crowns & Hops. For $175, guests will enjoy a six course gourmet feast and gain general admission to the second event: the City vs. City BBQ Get Down on Saturday, July 27. The weekend BBQ festival boasts an impressive roster of renowned pit masters from across the county and special musical performances. Highlights include a fierce BBQ competition, chef demos by Rasheed Philips, “AB” Brown, Lido Grubby, Logan Sandoval, and Delilah Winder, and a performance by hip-hop legend Yo-Yo. Tickets for the BBQ fest are $25 for general admission and $125 for VIP access. More info here

Shojin Summer Lunch Specials -> Shojin, the beloved Japanese vegan spot in Culver City, is rolling out mouthwatering summer lunch specials. From noon to 2:30 p.m., guests can dine on a sushi sampler set featuring a Yuzu Miso Kale Salad, Sushi Sampler of their most popular items, and a Baked “Crab Cake” Roll for $33. If ramen’s your thing, there’s a ramen and side dish combo for $28 as well. During this time discounted cocktails, mocktails, wine, and beer are also on offer.
