The dog days of summer are here, and there’s still plenty on offer around the city of angels.

Singin’ in the Rain in Concert at The Hollywood Bowl – TP > The cinematic classic Singin’ in the Rain hits the big screen this Tuesday at the Hollywood Bowl with a score condcuted live-to-picture via the Los Angeles Philharmonic, led by David Newman. Sketch Party LA – FA > Sketch Party’s twice-monthly drawing/drinking meet-up is back at Benny Boy Brewing this Tuesday. They’ll hook you up with sketch paper, pens, pencils, and markers, then it’s up to you to create, mingle, hang out, and enjoy BB’s solid lineup of craft beers and ciders. POP Sunset commUNITY Fest – M FA > This Wednesday in Long Beach, catch a free evening of wellness on Pine Ave, which will be closed to vehicular traffic between Broadway and 3rd Street. Attendees can check out fitness classes, health-focused food served by local restaurants, holistic health tips from experts, and eco-friendly shopping vendors. Runs 5 to 9 p.m. More info here.
Comedy Patio x Laughs 4 Giraffes – M FA > On Wednesday, Grand Central Market’s recurring comedy night is teaming up with The Giraffe Conservation Foundation for a donation-based comedy show where 100% of the proceeds go to the GCF. The lineup includes Moses Storm, Annie Lederman, Ali Macofsky, Skyler Higley, Jonathan Hollis, and Jeff Buck. Free to attend, but donations heartily encouraged. Show starts at 7 p.m. More info here.
Shakespeare in the Park – FA > The Independent Shakespeare Co. is once again bringing a summer of the Bard to Griffith Park, but unlike in past years, the 2024 season will focus on a single production. From July 10 to September 1, catch Wednesday-through-Sunday performances of As You Like It at ISC’s familiar space near the Old Zoo. The show starts at 7 p.m. but you’ll want to come at 6 p.m. to enjoy the immersive prologue. More info here.
Art & Meditation at LACMA – FA > Head to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art this Thursday evening for an evening of art and meditation led. by educator Alicia Vogl Sáenz. The slow “art-looking exercise” features a study of the exhibition Simone Leigh, followed by a group meditation. No experience necessary; all instruction to be provided. Sunset Music Series in Culver City – M FA > Culver City continues it’s summer-long series of outdoor concerts this Thursday with a night of world music featuring a ROCKnSOUL Party with acts Tom Kenney & The Hi-Seas. Sizzling Summer Nights at The Autry -> Every Thursday in August, The Autry museum hosts some of L.A.’s best salsa and Latin fusion bands with free salsa lessons, access to the museum galleries and a separate children’s dance floor. KCRW Summer Nights at CAAM – M FA TP > KCRW Summer Nights comes to California African American Museum with sets by KCRW DJs Novena Carmel and Francesca Harding, plus a guest set by DJ Gavin Turek. The evening also features food trucks, a beer garden, an all-ages maker activity, and after-hours museum access to all CAAM exhibitions. Party starts at 7 p.m. Free to attend. More info here.
Super 70mm Star Trek 60th Anniversary Series -> It’s all Trek all the time this Friday to Sunday at the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the production of the original Star Trek television series, you can catch screenings screen ultra-rare 70mm prints of Star Trek II-VI, as well as the restored Star Trek: The Motion Picture director’s cut in 4K Digital. Plus, special guests (like Adam Nimoy and director Nicholas Meyer) will be in attendance for pre-screening intros and conversations. Tickets are $25 per screening. Friday Night Wine Tastings at Barnsdall Park – M > After a five-year hiatus, Friday night wine tasting events are back at the Barnsdall Art Park West Lawn. A $45 ticket gets you a flight of wine curated by Silverlake Wine, plus access to a rotation of food trucks, all supported by tunes from local DJs and sweet sunset views of the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Park Observatory. Tiki Bar Pop-Up at Pendry -> The Pendry in West Hollywood is bringing a tiki bar experience to its rooftop, complete with tiki-style cocktails, bites, and stunning views of the Sunset Strip. Four Course Cheese & Beer Dinner at Agnes -> This Wednesday, Agnes Restaurant & Cheesery in Pasadena is hosting a special evening of cheese and beer pairings.
