Make Metro Part of Your Weekend
CAAMCon 2024 – M FA > California African American Museum is hosting a Black Comics Festival this Sunday featuring a marketplace of Black-owned comic vendors, special panels, and food trucks. The lineup includes a talk by New York Times best-selling author Roxane Gay, a hands-on zine-making workshop, and a panel led by former Marvel comics artist and RAE Comics imprint owner, TJ Sterling. LA Opera’s “Spanish Dracula” Screening –> This Friday to Sunday, step back into Hollywood’s Golden Age as the LA Opera presents the classic gothic horror film Spanish Dracula at the historic United Theater on Broadway. This rediscovered gem will be accompanied by a live performance from the LA Opera Orchestra, led by Lina González-Granados, with a world premiere score by Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla. Redondo Beach 7th Annual Halloween – FA > On Friday, The 7th Annual Redondo Beach Pier Halloween event returns to Fisherman’s Wharf with a community costume contest, DJ, Halloween themed photos, giveaways, prizes for best costumes and Trick-or-Treating on the Pier and Boardwalk (at participating businesses, while supplies last). Valley Vibes “Fright Night” Market – TP > This Friday, the Valley Vibes Market takes over the Autry Museum with over 50 Halloween and horror-themed vendors, along with food trucks, photo ops, costume contests, and trick-or-treating. For guests 21+, a ticketed Beer Garden will feature complimentary cocktails from Dulce Vida Tequila and samples from brands like Juneshine, Easy Rider Beer, South Central Wine, and more. Art on Screen at The Getty – FA > This Friday at The Getty, catch a free screening of Prey (2022) entirely dubbed in Comanche. The film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring film producer Jhane Myers, scholar Dr. Eric Tippeconnic, and artist Virgil Ortiz will discuss science fiction, Indigenous storytelling, and using art to preserve endangered languages and cultures. Fall Fun Festival in San Gabriel – FA > The Fall Fun Festival is back in The City of San Gabriel’s this Friday with family-friendly Halloween activities for all ages. Spread throughout the historic Mission District guests will find a Haunted Zone, costume contest, food trucks, photo ops, games, a trunk-or-treat area, and more. Runs 5 to 9 p.m. Free to attend. Boos and Brews at ACB – M FA > Angel City Brewery gets into the Halloween spirit this Friday with a spooky shindig featuring costumes, live performances, and special beer/candy pairings. Día de los Muertos at Hollywood Forever – TP > The 25th Annual Día de los Muertos festival at Hollywood Forever returns this Saturday with an all-day event featuring three different windows of admission (10 a.m. to noon, 2 to 6 p.m., then 6 to 11 p.m.). Expect over 100 spectacular altars throughout the grounds viewable for the duration of the event, all paired with traditional dance performances, art exhibits, culinary vendors, and a ceremonial procession. Día de Los Muertos Art Festival at the Downey Theatre -> On Saturday, some 25,000 attendees are expected for a day-to-night Día de Los Muertos Art Festival at the Downey Theatre. Here you’ll find three stages of live entertainment including Professional ballet folklorico plus a showcase of performances by Aztec dancers and musicians. Visitors can check out a “Garden of Catrinas” and “Avenue of Altars” outside the theatre or peruse a beer and wine garden, 10 local food tucks, 30+ vendors, a music petting zoo, and more. Haunted Little Tokyo Block Party – M FA > The annual Haunted Little Tokyo Block Party is back this Saturday, offering a night of DJ-spun tunes, a full bar, costume contest, and special vendors including Mao’s Bao, Atlaco Tacos, Rice & Nori, Softies Burger, Takoyaki TaNoTa, Yakipapis, Little Tokyo Taiyaki, and Anime Jungle. Runs 4 p.m. to midnight. Free to attend, but you’ll have to RSVP to scope out the exact location. 21+ only. More info here.
Corgi Beach Day – FA > This Saturday, Huntington Dog Beach is going to the dogs—corgis, to be exact! Open to all (even non-corgi owners), this fall-themed event will feature a corgi kissing booth, marketplace, photo installations, giveaways, contests, and meet-and-greets with famous corgi celebrities. 14th Annual El Velorio Cultural Celebration – TP > On Saturday, One of L.A. County’s largest Día de los Muertos celebrations returns to Plaza de la Raza for an evening of one-of-a-kind art pieces from over 150 artists plus live performances, Aztec Dancers, a Day of the Dead inspired puppet show by the Bob Baker Marionette Theater Company, face painting, food, and craft vendors. Marina Spooktacular – FA > Marina del Rey’s Marina Spooktacular offers a two-day event featuring pumpkin decorating, arts and crafts, DJ music, food vendors, a graveyard treasure hunt and more, all hosted at Burton Chace Park. Spies Among Us: A Live Action Game at The Wende Museum – TP FA > To highlight their latest exhibition, Counter/Surveillance: Control, Privacy, Agency, the Wende Museum’s team of student Professional Development interns has organized a live-action game visitors can play together during this Sunday’s Family Day. Participants take on secret roles and work together to complete tasks across the museum grounds—while staying on the look out for undercover spies aiming to sabotage their efforts! 6th Annual Disability Pride Parade & Festival – FA > The 6th Annual Disability Pride Parade & Festival returns to the East L.A. Civic Center this Sunday. This event is open to the general public welcoming allies and supporters for a day of solidarity. The details are TBA, but is probably similar to last year which had free food, a pumpkin patch, petting zoo, resources and more. More info here.
Barks & Boos -> This Sunday, the L.A. Arboretum hosts a day of fun for dogs, craft beers and food trucks for humans and pet adoption education for those considering rescuing a dog in need of a home. Coordinate costumes with your pup, and participate in a dog costume contest at 2:30 p.m. Admission for dogs cost $10 and will benefit the Pasadena Humane Society and LA Arboretum Foundation. MOLAA Día de los Muertos – FA > The Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach hosts their annual Dead of the Dead Family Festival this Sunday. Expect live performances, DJ-spun tnes, a face-painting station, a children’s sugar skull workshop, printmaking station and a live tattoo artist, plus a catrina/catrine costume contest in the afternoon. Event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free to attend, but onsite parking will be $15. More info here.
Street Science at The Getty – FA > PST ART + Science programming pops up at The Getty this Sunday with Street Science, a day of drop-in activities and special demos featuring live experiments and family-friendly performances showcasing chemistry and special effects. The activation runs from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with an hour-long break at 12:30 p.m. The Getty is free to visit with reservation, but remember parking$25 per car or motorcycle. More info here.

Bloodlust Wine Bar at Little Ripper – This Saturday, Glassell Park’s Little Ripper wine bar transforms into Baja California’s Bloodlust Wine Bar for an exclusive one-night culinary adventure. Chef Alejandro Burgos will present a five-course dinner celebrating the rich flavors of Valle de Guadalupe, featuring fresh Baja oysters, abalone, wagyu, and bluefin tuna, all paired with natural wines from the region.
