Make Metro Part of Your Weekend
Pasadena Doo Dah Parade – M FA > Sometimes called the “Twisted Sister” of the annual Rose Parade, The Pasadena Doo Dah Parade returns this Sunday for its 45th edition, featuring an irreverent and oddball cast of characters marching down Colorado Blvd in Old Pasadena. The parade begins at Raymond Ave. and Holly Street, continuing south 2 blocks and then banking right onto Colorado. The official start time is 11 a.m., but it’s recommended to get there early if you want a good viewing spot. More info here.

Los Angeles Auto Show – M > Starting this Friday, The nation’s top auto show returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center for a ten-day affair featuring a who’s who of automotive exhibitors, plus vehicle test drives, activations, and family-friendly entertainment. The 10-day event concludes on December 1. Single day tickets start at $22.80 for adults. More info here.
John C. Reilly is Mister Romantic – > Actor John C. Reilly reconvenes his one-man show at Largo this Friday. Mister Romantic is a musical/comedy journey which casts Reilly as a man who lives in a box and only comes out to perform (or when someone says they’ll love him forever). Tickets are $46 with all fees included. Show starts at 8 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m. More info here.
Science Fiction Against the Margins – FA > The UCLA Film & Television Archive screens Night Raiders (directed by Danis Goulet) at The Hammer’s Billy Wilder Theater this Friday as part of the Science Fiction Against the Margins series, an ongoing slate of films curated to showcase filmmakers who occupy the “margins” of mainstream cinema in order to challenge and subvert the science fiction genre. Enchanted: Forest of Light -> Descanso Gardens’ annual light spectacle is officially back with a range of wondrous, illuminated installations spread throughout the grounds, from 3-D geometric sculptures in the Rose Garden to a glowing meadow grass installation among the oaks. Pershing Square Holiday Ice – M > The 7,200 square foot rink at Pershing Square will again offer holiday skating in DTLA. The cost is $20 for adults, which includes skate rental. Open daily through January 12. More info here.
Astra Lumina: An Enchanted Night Walk Amongst The Stars -> The South Coast Botanic Garden has once again morphed into a multi-sensory celestial pathway for the holiday season. Experience a walk amongst the stars featuring brilliant lights, cosmic visions, and astral song. Runs on Select dates through January 31, including this Thursday to Sunday. L.A. Zoo Lights -> The Los Angeles Zoo’s brightest annual tradition will transform the zoo grounds into a world of light and holiday magic. The after-hours event offers brightly lit displays and festive family-friendly experience every night throughout the entire holiday season. Adult tickets range from $29-$35, depending on the desired date to attend. More info here.
Common Ground Celebration at the Japanese American National Museum – Join the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) on Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m. to highlight the exhibition,Common Ground: The Heart of Community. This special event, which honors over 140 years of Japanese American history, brings back the Pavilion’s 1999 admission prices: $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for students and youth ages 6–17, and free for JANM Members and children. The afternoon promises a nostalgic atmosphere with classic music, a keepsake photo booth, and guided tours. SATURDAY DRIVE: ‘Jason Rhoades. DRIVE’ Celebration – M FA > This Saturday, Hauser & Wirth’s Arts District location has planned a daylong program celebrating the exhibition ‘Jason Rhoades. DRIVE’. The free event features a talk with LA-based artists who use cars in their own work, a special book launch, creative workshops and a celebration with Curate LA. BikeLA BikeFest Annual Fundraiser – M TP > BikeLA hosts its 3rd Annual LA Bike Fest Fundraiser Happy Hour and Celebration this Saturday at Highland Park Brewery in Chinatown. A $25 advance ticket ($35 at the door if capacity allows) includes free bike valet, one beer or non-alcoholic drink, a commemorative golden BikeLA bandana, and a bike-themed silent auction. Corita Day – FA > On Saturday, the Philosophical Research Society and the Corita Art Center team up to celebrate the legacy and impact of artist and civil rights activist Corita Kent. Attendees can check out family art-making sessions, hands-on art activities, and live readings. The afternoon program (3 to 6 p.m.) is free to attend. Great Los Angeles Walk – FA TP > If you like walking (we mean really like walking), the annual Great Los Angeles Walk takes place this Saturday, with a meet-up point at the oldest palm tree in Los Angeles, found in Exposition Park. The route is scheduled to take participants all the way to the Bruin statue on the campus of UCLA, beginning at 9 a.m.. Ana Segovia at MOCA Grand Avenue – FA > This Saturday, the Museum of Contemporary Art will debut the first ever U.S. solo exhibition for Mexican artist Ana Segovia at MOCA’s Grand Ave campus. MOCA Focus: Ana Segovia exhibits a series of paintings that twist assumptions of masculinity through a queer lens, subverting norms and challenging gendered stereotypes based on national identity. Burbank Winter Wine Walk -> Celebrate the season with a wine stroll in Downtown Burbank on Saturday where guests will enjoy wine tasting stations, live entertainment and a street lined with vendors to help you shop for the holidays. Latino Comics Festival – FA > The Museum of Latina American Art in Long Beach is hosting a Latino Comics Expo on Saturday and Sunday. The vendor lineup includes an array of Latino comics creators, authors, animators, cartoonists, designers, and zine makers, plus food trucks and a Children’s Chalk area. Annual Moby Dick Reading – FA > Join the Venice Oceanarium for a beloved Venice Beach tradition, now in its 29th year! Taking place this Saturday and Sunday from sunrise to sunset, the public is invited to listen or volunteer to read from Herman Melville’s Moby Dick. More info here.
A Very Merry Mis-Travaganza -> This Sunday, The Philosophical Research Society, Los Angeles puppetry gem The Bob Baker Marionette Theater, and stop-motion studio Screen Novelties are teaming up for a festive holiday matinee. Digital Witness at LACMA -> This Sunday, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art opens their newest exhibition, Digital Witness: Revolutions in Design, Photography, and Film. The exhibition features works from 200 artists, designers, and makers, all curated to examine the impact of digital manipulation tools from the 1980s to the present. Home Movie Day at the Academy – FA TP > On Sunday, The Academy Museum will host a Home Movie Day aimed at celebrating the local film community and recognizing the powerful ways home movies and amateur films add to the history of cinema. The programming includes a projection workshop where participants will learn the history and significance of various film formats, followed by a tactile filmmaking workshop where anyone can experiment with creating their own “cameraless” films with simple tools like markers, hole-punchers, and paint. Ursula Pop-Up at SIXTY Beverly Hills –> James Beard-nominated Chef Eric See is bringing his Brooklyn restaurant, Ursula, to Ella at SIXTY Beverly Hills for a New Mexican-inspired weekend residency.
