LA Times Festival of Books – > This Saturday and Sunday, the 30th Los Angeles Times Festival of Books returns to the campus of USC this April featuring over book and merchandise exhibitors, a number of outdoor stages and activity areas, expert panels, performances, demos, and more. Admission to the festival is free to attend with some programing ticketed.

TCM Classic Film Festival -> This Thursday to Sunday, the TCM Classic Film Festival is back with a four-day slate of flicks shown on the big screen at a range of historic Los Angels theaters. The festival will focus on grand illusions, fantastic worlds in cinema, with the lineup including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Back to the Future, Blade Runner, and more. Individual tickets start at $20. Arts Party: Transcend at The Hammer – FA TP > This Friday night, The Hammer’s annual Arts Party for college students returns. Students from all over Southern California are invited to stop by to enjoy live music, art-making workshops from Self-Help Graphics and LA Zine Fest, and after-hours access to the galleries. Angel City Review’s Ten Years of Poetry in L.A. – FA > On Friday, Oxy Arts hosts a night of poetry readings to celebrate the publication of Angel City Review’s new anthology, Angel City Review’s Ten Years of Poetry in L.A. . The evening will include readings from poets Rocio Carlos, Billy Burgos, Ramon Garcia , Mylo Lam, and Amy Raasch. In addition, every attendee will receive a free copy of the anthology. Meditation with a Tree at Getty Center – FA > On Saturday, The Getty invites guests to “attune to the rhythms of the tree” through a multi-speaker sound installation, a guided meditation syncs breath with sap flow, wind, and unseen energies, fostering shared perception and expanded communication. The 15th Eclectic Music Festival & Art Crawl – M FA > South Pasadena’s Eclectic Music Festival and Art Crawl returns on Saturday with dozens of diverse musical acts on stages and intimate venues all across town. Common Space Renaissance Faire – FA > Common Space is marking their 7th anniversary this Saturday with all-day and all-night night celebrating harkening back to the age of yore. Attendees can expect a new craft beer release, jousting, aerial performances, live music, tarot, face painting, food, and of course… a costume contest. Come dressed for the occasion! Free to attend. Open Arts San Pedro – FA TP > This Saturday and Sunday, Angeleno art lovers can head to the South Bay for Arts Open San Pedro, a two-day, neighborhood wide takeover featuring more than 100 local artists, open studios, live music, dance, arts and craft, a scavenger hunt, food trucks, and immersive art installations, all spread over multiple locations. Jackalope Pasadena – M FA > This Saturday and Sunday, Jackalope brings its artisan market back to Central Park in Old Pasadena for a two-day event showcasing over 200 local vendors selling indie goods, clothing, jewelry, home decor, housewares, art, photography, and food. Fiesta Broadway – M FA > On Sunday, Four blocks of Broadway (between 1st and 4th) come alive for the annual Fiesta Broadway, a daylong Cinco de Mayo celebration featuring Lucha Libre matches, music, vendor booths, games, sports activities and a play area for kids. Skirball Puppet Festival – > This Sunday, head to the Skirball Cultural Center to spend the day with friendly monsters and eclectic creatures at this massive festival featuring puppets in all shapes and sizes, live music, and a chance to design your own puppet. Cinco de Mayo Family Day at LA Plaza – M FA > LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes hosts their annual celebration of Cinco de Mayo this Sunday with a program of live music, art workshops, and dance, including performances by Ballet Floklórico Flor de Mayo and Santa Monica College Global Motion World Dance Company.
