Make Metro Part of Your Weekend

Metro Bike Share Community Ride: to the Beach! -> On Saturday, Santa Monica Spoke and Metro Bike Share team up for a summertime community ride starting from 17th St / SMC Expo Line station. The 8-mile roundtrip journey will take the group to the Santa Monica coast line to enjoy the ocean breeze before returning to the starting point. Participants 16 years and older can reserve a Metro Bike at no cost to attend this event, or you can bring your own. The ride runs from 10 a.m. to noon. Get more info and sign-up here.

Shakespeare in the ParkFA TP > The Independent Shakespeare Co. is once again bringing a summer of the Bard to Griffith Park, but unlike in past years, the 2024 season will focus on a single production. From July 10 to September 1, catch Wednesday-through-Sunday performances of As You Like It at ISC’s familiar space near the Old Zoo. The main show starts at 7 p.m., and you can catch a pre-show, immersive prologue at 6 p.m. Free to attend, but donations heartily encouraged. More info here.

Sunset Swim at Annenberg Community Beach House -> After a long (and hot) week, cool off with a Sunset Swim this Friday at the oceanside pool located on the historic former estate of actress Marion Davies. The adults-only session runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Registration is $10. More info here.

Outdoor Movies at the Skirball – > The Skirball’s annual outdoor movies series returns this month with a screening of Pan’s Labyrinth on Friday. Plus: guests are invited to come early to view the latest Skirball exhibition Wild Things Are Happening: The Art of Maurice Sendak. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the film begins at 8:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20. More info here.

Dance DTLA at The Music CenterM FA > The Music Center’s Dance DTLA hosts an evening of Reggaeton this Friday, with instructors will be on hand to teach guests easy-to-follow steps, allowing everyone to get into the groove right from the jump. Event runs from 7 to 11 p.m. Free as always to attend More info here.

South Bay Greek Festival -> The South Bay Greek Festival returns for a three-day affair (this Friday to Sunday) at St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in Redondo Beach. Expect an array of Greek culinary delights (spanakopita, lamb chops, baklava), dancing, and fun. Entry fee is $5, and children 12 and under are free. More info here.

Maestro of the Movies at Hollywood Bowl TP > Legendary film composer John Williams has curated three nights (this Friday to Sunday) of movie music with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The program includes Williams’ iconic scores from Star Wars and Superman as well as music from Hollywood’s Golden Age, all backed by film clips on the big screen. Because of Williams’ ongoing health concerns, David Newman will conduct all three evenings. Available tickets start as low as $59. Get more info here.

Summer of SalsaM FA > The LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes Summer of Salsa series kicked off last month, but the rhythm continues one Friday each month through the end of summer, highlighting some of the city’s best salsa and Cuban bands in the process. This month, catch a performance by the L.A.-based salsa group Son Mayor. Doors open at 6 p.m., and music starts at 7 p.m. Always free to attend. More info here.

Barbie Movie Screening at Petersen Automotive MuseumFA > This Friday, the Petersen Automotive Museum is hosting a panel with the creative minds behind Mattel’s beloved toys. The iconic pink Barbie Corvette will be on display, followed by a special screening of the Barbie movie. The event is free and open to all. Friday Night Wine Tastings at Barnsdall ParkM > After a five-year hiatus, Friday night wine tasting events are back at the Barnsdall Art Park West Lawn. A $45 ticket gets you a flight of wine curated by Silverlake Wine, plus access to a rotation of food trucks, all supported by tunes from local DJs and sweet sunset views of the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Park Observatory. Movies at The StepsFA > Watch family friendly movies every Friday night at the Culver City Steps. Screenings start at 8:30 p.m. it’s free to attend and complimentary popcorn will be provided. This week they’ll screen Stuart Little. More info here.

Ivy Station Night Market Backyard Barbecue M FA > Ivy Station’s monthly night market continues this Friday with BBQ pop ups, local vendors plus food trucks, craft beer, lawn games, and music. Free to attend as always. Runs 5 to 10 p.m. More info here.

Jazz at LACMA – FA > The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s annual Friday Night Jazz series is back for a season of free weekly concerts at Smidt Welcome Plaza through November. This week: a performance by Marvin “Smitty” Smith Septet. Remember that LACMA is free to visit for L.A. County Residents (with I.D.) on weekdays after 3 p.m. Seating is first come, first serve. LACMA Latin SoundsFA > LACMA’s Saturday evening outdoor concert series continues at Dorothy Collins Brown Amphitheater (just north of the La Brea Tar Pits Museum) in celebration of the exhibition Painting in the River of Angels: Judy Baca and The Great Wall. This weekend features a performance by the Los Angeles Del Tango Ensemble. Latin Sounds concerts are free to attend, and run 5 to 7 p.m. More info here.

Asada Fest -> Asada Fest, presented by Northgate González Market, is turning Rolling Greens in the Arts District into one huge block party this Saturday.. Enjoy delicious recipes from notable chefs like Javier Plascencia, Claudette Zepeda, and Daniel Castillo. Your ticket also includes live cooking demos, live music, and lucha libre matches. LA Zoo Roaring Nights -> The L.A. Zoo’s annual Roaring Nights is back this Saturday. with an 80’s themed 21+ evening of music, dancing, food, drinks, a painting party and animal encounters. Runs 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets cost $25 a person. More info here.

Echo Park Lotus FestivalFA TP > This Saturday and Sunday, The 43rd annual Lotus Festival honors the people and culture of the Philippines for 2024 with live music, children’s activities, a lantern launch, dragon boat races, and more. Free to attend, but you want to participate in the lantern portion you can buy tickets starting at $25. Events start at 1:30 p.m. on both days. More info here.

Vibe Check at The Ford -> This Sunday, audio-journalist Sam Sanders, poet Saeed Jones, and theater producer Zach Stafford join forces to bring a live person of their pop culture and politics podcast, Vibe Check to The Ford to kick off the outdoor amphitheater’s 2024 season. Sunday Afternoon Concerts in the Dome -> On Sunday, Mount Wilson Observatory continues its 2024 season of classical concerts hosted inside the historic 100-inch telescope dome, where the acoustics are said to be some of the finest in the world. For July, the Eclipse String Quartet performs. There will be two musical performances, one at 3 p.m. and the other at 5 p.m. Tickets are $60. More info here

Valley Vibes Market -> This Sunday, Valley Vibes Market brings 60+ vendors to the Autry Museum to showcase unique and handcrafted goods. Plus, guests can expect music, food trucks, a stocked bar, and free parking. Admission is free. Runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More info here.

Twilight Garden Strolls at The Huntington -> Enjoy the gardens during twilight hours on select evenings at The Huntington in the summer including this Sunday from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Advance tickets ($20 per adult) are required. More info here.

Poolside Cinema -> Every Sunday the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows in Santa Monica hosts film screenings poolside. Tickets cost $45 a person and includes popcorn, and a $45 food credit. This week they’ll screen Sideways. More info here

Bastille Day Party at Coucou -> Celebrate Bastille Day on Sunday, July 14, at the charming French bistro Coucou. Starting at 5 p.m., both the Venice and West Hollywood locations will host festivities featuring Coucou’s signature dishes, including the classic Steak Frites, the unique L’haute Dog, and the beloved Soft Serve Sundae.
