40 Awesome Things to do this Weekend in L.A. [2-24-17 to 2-26-17]

Los Angeles provides no limit of things to do, some awesome and some not so awesome. Since time is precious in this fast paced city, we decided to curate a list of things to do in Los Angeles every week end that’ll help you decide how you want to spend your limited supply of attention (not to mention dollars!).

This weekend (Feb. 24 to Feb. 26) includes the LA Art Book Fair, CoffeeCon, a Craft Beer Festival in San Pedro, Pop-Up Magazine, Oscar parties, and LOTS more to choose from.

Friday February 24th, 2017

1. Come browse books, art catalogs, zines and more by local and national artists at the 5th Annual LA Art Book Fair taking place at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA Feb. 23-26. FREE

2. Pop-Up Magazine is a night filled with true, multimedia storytelling with stunning visuals, film, and live music. Listen to writers, filmmakers, photographers and producers share true stories at the Theatre at The Ace.

3. As part of their culinary series of thematic pop-up dinners, The Autry is hosting a farm-to-table food experience called Flavors: Future of Food. 4. Upstairs at Ace Hotel will be hosting the official after hours parties for Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair February 23 – 26. Each night a different publisher will host the free 21+  party starting at 8:30 p.m. FREE

7. The Alchemist’s Lab is an escape room experience putting you right in the shoes of a junior detective at Scotland Yard in the 19th century. Do you have what it takes to uncover the devious plans of the alchemist? Happening all weekend. DISCOUNTED (via Goldstar)

8. Late-Night Lichtenstein at The Skirball is a rare opportunity to see the exhibit Pop for the People: Roy Lichtenstein in L.A. at night for free! At this time organizers tell us the waitlist is at capacity so if you don’t make the cut this Friday, try checking out the exhibit before March 12 when it comes to a close.

9. The Groundlings: The Completely Different Late Show is a hilarious improv show by the cast of the Groundlings’ Main Company. Audience shout suggestions throughout the night for improvisational scenes performed by some of the best in the business. 10. Every Friday in February Greenbar Distillery in Downtown Los Angeles will host cocktail classes featuring seasonal and themed drinks. This week’s theme is Seasonal Produce Cocktails made with vodka and whiskey.

11. Thrones!, a hilarious musical parody of Game of Thrones is playing at The Hudson Theatre in Hollywood.

12HALSTON HERITAGE is having a sample sale this Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cooper Building. They’re offering up to 70% off women’s ready-to-wear, dresses and handbags.

13. Dine Out Long Beach Restaurant Week returns with a 2.0 version, Feb. 19-25. Guests will have a chance to savor prix fixe lunches and dinners at a special price.

14. Every Friday in February, the Norton Science Museum in Pasadena will host “Unexpected Romance” a film series centered around romance. This week the 1971 film Harold and Maude will be screened.

Saturday February 25th, 2017

16. Get your fill of lattes, cold brew and other caffeinated drinks during CoffeeCon February 25 and 26 at The Reef in DTLA. Attendees will have an opportunity to taste, test, learn and enjoy every aspect of coffee via panels, presentations, brew bars and the espresso labs. 17. Help raise some much-needed funds for supplies for shelter animals at Cupcakes for Canines and Friends! Taking place at Adopt & Shop in Culver City, the event is both a cupcake sale and a supply drive for animals in need.

18. Bob Baker Days returns to the Marionette Theater Feb. 25-26. The historic puppet theater will honor their late founder with a two-day festival filled with puppet shows, art, crafts, music, comedy, films and more.

19. Electric Dusk Drive-In, LA’s only drive-in movie will screen one of the most epic love stories on the big screen Casablanca this Satruday.

22. Playboy will take their party to the rinks this Saturday with the first ever Midnight Roller Disco. Skate to totally 70s tunes, indulge in an open bar, and roll out onto the rink in your grooviest outfit. Tickets cost $40.

24. Brouwerij West turns one this weekend and to celebrate they’ll be throwing a party with plenty of beer tastings and brunch. Ticket cost $30 a person.

25. CityRace Urban Adventure presents Culver City: in the Shadows of the Stars a three-hour adventure scavenger hunt in Culver City where Citizen Kane and The Wizard of Oz was born. DISCOUNTED (via Goldstar)

26. “A comatose man recreates his identity by delving deeply into his memories, while a panoply of family members and loved ones form scheming camps over grave neurological decisions” in Plasticity, a new one-man show now playing at the Hudson Theatres. Performances take place Saturday, Sunday, and Monday evenings.

27. Long Beach Mardi Gras Parade will take place from the Aquarium of the Pacific to Shoreline Village where a full on party with dancing, games and more awaits. FREE

28. The Corey Helford Gallery will premiere “Antisocial Network,” the first exhibition in Los Angeles in over a decade from local visual artist Alex Gross. The new collection will feature oil paintings, drawings and mixed media cabinet card paintings. The opening reception is open to the public from 7 to 11 p.m. FREE

29. Second City Tours presents a Santa Monica Seafood Crawl this Saturday. The two hour walking tour will have you dining at the neighborhoods most loved spots.  DISCOUNTED (via Goldstar)

30. There’s a Bloody Gras event going down in DTLA this weekend. Hosted by the Drunken Devil the Mardi Gras party promises to be a more devious version of the popular Louisiana tradition .

Sunday February 26th, 2017

33. There’s a George Harrison Pop Up at Subliminal Projects this weekend on Harrison’s 74th birthday. The Beatles guitarist will be the focus of a one-day popup featuring six portraits created by Fairey, along with handwritten lyrics, song commentary and family photos. FREE

34. Watch the Oscars in style at the Ace Hotel, they’ll honor one of Hollywood’s most stylish nights with a party! Doors opening at 3:30 p.m., guests can watch a livestream of the award pre-show, and then the show itself, within the Ace Hotel’s gorgeous Spanish Gothic theater.

35. The annual Hollywood Beer & Music Fest will host 25+ local and regional breweries offering 50+ samples to guests while a variety of musical acts such as DJ’s, MC’s and even a Guns N’ Roses tribute band take the stage to entertain you well into the night. 37. **UPDATE** Due to expected rain on Sunday, this event has been moved to Saturday, Feb. 25. League of Extraordinary Mutts will be hosting an adoption dog event at Malibu Country Mart this Sunday to help lovable dogs find homes. Bonus, there will be a kissing booth with the pups.

38. Second City Tours presents the Los Angeles Wine and Cheese Walk where you’ll stop by three excellent spots to sample eight or more varietals of reds, whites and sparkling wines, paired with an assortment of cheeses and breads. DISCOUNTED (via Goldstar)

39. The bi-monthly Outdoor Antique Market returns to the Santa Monica Airport this Sunday.
