39 Awesome Things To Do in L.A. This Weekend [6-19-15 to 6-21-15]

Los Angeles provides no limit of things to do, some awesome and some not so awesome. Since time is precious in this fast paced city, we decided to curate a list of things to do in Los Angeles every weekend that’ll help you decide how you want to spend your limited supply of attention (not to mention dollars!).

This weekend includes a free Cayucas concert, a pool party at the Roosevelt, free LA Zoo admission, a Father’s Day food and music fest plus the start of L.A. Beer Week (yeah, and a lot more!).

1. Classic film screening of The Graduate

Critics are calling Inside Out Pixar’s best film since Up (100% on Rotten Tomatoes so far, woot-woot). Catch a showing of the new release at El Capitan Theater that includes a live, pre-show dance performance and a screening of the short film Lava. 6. The Music Center Host Bring Your Own Dance Moves

The Music Center in Downtown Los Angeles is encouraging you to get your boogie on. Line dancing and two step will the be the theme of the event which include dance lessons, live band or DJ, and a open dance floor.

7. The Groundlings: The Completely Different Late Show

The Completely Different Late Show is a hilarious improv show by the cast of the Groundlings’ Main Company. Audience shout suggestions throughout the night for improvisational scenes performed by some of the best in the business. 8. Friday Night Jazz at LACMA

LACMA’s award winning Department of Music Program is a remarkable city resource, providing hundreds of free concerts and musical events every year for Angelenos to enjoy. This Friday they kick off their annual jazz series. The concerts will take place at the BP Grand Entrance.

9. The Joie, Equipment, and Current/Elliott Sale

10. Free Screening of Earth to Echo at the Redondo Beach Pier

11. Los Angeles Women’s Theater Festival

Six short plays all in one night, all with an aim to empower women artists to engage and inspire communities. Hosted by actresses Hattie Winston (Becker) and Joyce Guy (Parenthood). Get more information discount tickets via Goldstar.

12. Hollywood Fringe Festival

Local and international theater your thing? Checkout the Hollywood Fringe Festival happening now through June 28. The highly popular event hosts around 275 shows each year, expect one-person shows, new musicals, comedies and edgy dramas. 13. Grand Performances Starts Its Summer of Free Concerts

A summer of free concerts in downtown L.A. gets started with a Grand Performance presentation of The Gas Lamp Killer Experience.

14. Barnsdall Park’s Friday Night Wine Tasting

All summer long Barnsdall Art Park has a weekly fundraiser to benefit Barnsdall Art Park Foundation programs and projects. Perched on a hill with a gorgeous panoramic view of Hollywood, guests will enjoy fine wine and art in the gardens of Frank Lloyd Wright’s newly restored architectural gem, Hollyhock House. Silver Lake Wine will curate fine selections of boutique, small production, artisanal wines for park-goers as well as local gourmet cheese shop, Say Cheese.

15. Matilda the Musical

Named Time magazine’s No. 1 show of the year, Matilda the Musical is the story of an extraordinary little girl who dreams of a better life. Based on the novel by Roald Dahl and brought to lift by a brilliant team that includes Tony-winning director Matthew Warchus (God of Carnage) and Tony-winning playwright Dennis Kelly. Tickets for the show start at $75 but Goldstar has them starting at $52 now till Sunday.

16. Eat|See|Hear Screens Edward Scissorhands

17. Free Cayucas Show

Cayucas will be performing for free at One Colorado in Pasadena as part of KCRW’s free summer concert series. Hosted by KCRW DJ Marion Hodges. Goes from 7:30pm – 9:30pm

18. Free Pool Party At The Roosevelt

The iconic Tropicana at the Roosevelt Hotel is having a free pool party for those who RSVP. Sounds by Mr. Little Jeans, Tony Adams, Black Gatsby and more.

19. Free Star Party at Griffith Observatory

The Observatory’s monthly get-together where visitors gaze at the stars and mingle with amateur astronomers in a free (beautiful) public setting. Just get there early cause it tends to crowded!

20. HushFest On The Santa Monica Pier

Here’s how it works, HushFest gives concert-goers headphones to wear when they enter the venue and some of the coolest bands and DJ’s take over the headphones. Basically, you get to dancing your ass off next to a bunch of other people doing the same as the sunsets on the ocean. This time CLUBDUB is taking control.

21. James Perse’s Sample Sale

This two-day epic sale will feature up to 75% off on the labels women, men and kids line. 22. Basecamp Fitness Is Offering Free Weekend Park Workouts

Before the gyms opening in August Basecamp is hooking up complimentary workouts at Pan Pacific Park (7600 Beverly Boulevard) every weekend, starting this Saturday at 11:00am. The sessions will feature “Air Assault Bikes” as well as tons of other fitness equipment. Water and snacks will be provided and all attendees will receive a free workout T-shirt. Brooklyn-born craft market Artists & Fleas takes place every third weekend of the month along Mateo St (between 6th and 7th St) in DTLA from 11:00am – 5:00pm. The market features locally made art, fashion, vintage wares, vinyl, edibles and beyond. Feeling hungry after a full day of shopping? No need to worry there’s a “feed lot”  that features five LA-based food trucks; admission is free.

24. Thai Fest By The Beach In Santa Monica

Enjoy famous Thai dishes and a variety of live entertainment including a Muay Thai Show and fun activities like cooking demos at the Thai Fest by the Beach. Admission is free to the festival.

25. Pasadena Chalk Festival

Watch artists create amazing animation with chalk. There’s even a Chalk of Fame presenting murals that represent tv and film, live entertainment, a kids area, a car show, a silent auction and oh so much more. Happening both Saturday and Sunday this event is the perfect family outing.

26. Free Yoga On The Redondo Beach Pier

The Fly Buddha and The Green Yogi partner up for an awesome free yoga experience. Instructors will lead a 60 minute yoga class while DJ Gadachy fills the air with yoga flowing beats. All levels are welcome. Don’t forget to bring a yoga mat, towel and water!

27. L.A. Beer Week Starts

Jumpstart the first official week of summer in our city with L.A. Beer Week. The event is expected to have 200+ mini events citywide for a whole week including tap takeovers and beer dinners at local craft-brew spots all over Los Angeles. The offical kickoff festival will take place at Exposition Park from 12:00pm – 5:00pm and will include 75+ attending breweries, live music and entertainment, food trucks, educational panel discussions, and a VIP private area.

28. Long Beach Bayou Festival

Now in its 29th year, the Long Beach Bayou Festival is a weekend filled with music, cuisine, and dance from New Orleans and the Louisiana Bayou Country. Feast on the specialties of Cajun and Creole cuisine and enjoy your day the Big Easy way.

29. Free Kick Off Concert For BET Experience 

Jordin Sparks will join hit artists Deborah Cox and Chrisette Michelle to headline a free concert at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw to kick off the 2015 BET Experience at LA Live. Hosted by radio personality DJ MaL-ski of 102.3 KJLH-FM. The free concert begins at 3:00pm on the outdoor promenade of Baldwin Hills Crenshaw.

30. Romeo & Juliet: Love is a Battlefield

What happens when a classic Shakespearean story gets merged with a soundtrack by Pat Benatar? A highly entertaining dinner theater show at the Rockwell in Los Feliz starring Family star Ashley Argota (The Fosters) as Juliet and handsome Corbin Bleu (High School Musical) as Romeo. 31. Free Father’s Day Entry at the LA Zoo

Wescom Credit Union will be paying for more than 600 adult admission tickets to the Los Angeles Zoo on Father’s Day as part of their #WescomKindness program.

32. Fathers Day Food Truck & Music Festival At Angel City Brewery 

Angel City Brewing & Public House will be hosting a Father’s Day food truck and music festival on Sunday starting at noon.

33. Griffith Observatory Summer Solstice Events

On the summer solstice, for the Sun’s “local noon” appearance, at its highest position in the sky all year, the Sun’s projected image crosses the engraved meridian arc of the Gottlieb Transit Corridor on the west side of the Griffith Observatory. The northernmost sunset and the end of the longest day of the year align with an engraved marker and stone line laid into pavement on the terrace. The solstice sunset occurs at 8:07 pm. Just to let you know it might get crowed on this special day.

34. Rose City Summer Solstice Festival

Rose City Yoga has teamed up with Athleta to host Rose City Summer Solstice Festival in honor of International Yoga Day. Come out and enjoy a day filled with free yoga classes, food, live entertainment and more. There will also be a raffle to raise awareness and support for The Foundation for Living Beauty, a local non-profit organization who provides services for women living with cancer and cancer survivors.

35. Fathers Day Feast At The Shade Hotel

The quickest way to a dad’s heart is through his stomach! Pay a visit to the Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach from 12:00pm – 4:00pm guests can enjoy a whole spit-roasted pig along with other meats paired with brews from El Segundo Brewery (all dads receive 3 beers with their meal.) Live entertainment including a steel drum band and kids zone with craft tables and games will be provided to keep the little ones occupied.

36. Father’s Day Magic Spectacular at Magicopolis

37. Athleta Summer Solstice Events

A free yoga class, a juice bar reception AND goodie bags! This is the perfect way to celebrate International Yoga Day. Happening at Athleta locations in Santa Monica and The Grove.

38. Free Summer Solstice Beach Party

Music, art, performance all make up this free beach party happening in Long Beach. This event is brought together by Subtract Music and Long Beach Light Tribe, without any sponsorships.

39. Make Music LA 2015

June 21 is recognized as International ‘Make Music Day’ and is celebrated by some 800 cities in 110 countries all over the world. In Los Angeles dozens of neighborhood venues will showcase local musical artists as part a city-wide celebration of sound called Make Music LA.
